Drax provide the cup shock on day of goals
Frank Cawthorn Cup
Bay Horse 0, Victoria Rangers 12
League champions and reigning Cawthorn Cup holders Victoria Rangers made easy work of lowly Bay Horse in Sunday's Frank Cawthorn Cup second-round tie.
Rangers were ahead as early as the second minute through Jason Gibbon, and he made it two three minutes later, and these early strikes were the fore-runner of a rout.
Andy Gill made it three and Gibbon completed a first-half hat-trick as the Division One side went in at the break four goals to the good.
The domination of the 'Gers continued in the second half. Gibbon bagged his fourth of the morning and there were two more for Andy Gill to complete his hat-trick.
Terry Fallon and Ben Eastwood scored two apiece and Gary Jones completed the scoring for a 12-0 success.
Had it not been for some fine saves from the Bay Horse keeper, the margin could have been even wider.
The Mansfield Brewery Man of the Match was shared between Terry Fallon and Jason Gibbon.
Old Goole Veterans 4, Vikings 3 (after extra time - 90 min score 3-3)
It was local action for the 'Vets' in the Frank Cawthorn Cup with Division one leaders Vikings their opponents at South Park in the Frank Cawthorn Cup.
And it turned out to be a game of two halves, and an exciting tie at that.
The Veterans had the better of the opening 45 minutes and took the lead after ten minutes when good work down the flank from Sam Nicholls found Lee Thompson, who scored from close range.
And really the home side should have wrapped the game up there and then as poor finishing cost them at least a three-goal lead.
And that slender lead looked all that as the Vikings upped the tempo at the start of the second half, and although the 'Vets' took a two-goal lead through James Chafer, who latched on to a through ball, it was short-lived as the visitors responded with a goal on the hour.
Chafer extended the lead once more for the 'Vets', but the Vikings' response this time was such that they scored twice in the final twelve minutes to force extra time.
Extra time was a tense affair until Adi Jones eventually popped up with the decisive goal for the Veterans and send them into the next round.
The Man of the Match for Old Goole was James Chafer.
Green Dragon 2, Drax Athletic 3
A game where, apart from the fist five minutes, Drax Athletic were in total control.
On paper the two teams looked miles apart as the Dragon had been slain only once all season, but this cup-tie turned the form book upside down, with Drax on the prowl playing the best football seen from them this season.
A free kick 30 yards from the Dragon goal saw Athletic's free kick specialist Paul Holt place a great shot in the top corner.
The bombardment continued, but against the run of play Green Dragon fired fine equaliser.
Undeterred by this Drax quickly responded with another attack and Richard Green's pass resulted in Rob Walkden's goal.
Richard Green added a marvellous third through his own creativity and Drax maintained their determination and could easily have won more convincingly.
A late consolation goal to the Green Dragon made the scoreline tighter than it could have been, but for the visitors it was progress in the competition for the first time.
In the remaining games, Buchanan, Canal Tavern, Arcadia and Thorne Demi had comfortable wins in progressing to the second round.
Division One
NUR 3, George Renegades 1
The game only went ahead when a spectator took the referee's whistle after the original official failed to arrive.
The visitors started the brighter with NUR needing their usual ten minutes to start, but they settled down and started to play good football.
However an error by central defender Nat Braithwaite gave the visitors an early penalty, and this was dispatched in the bottom corner.
NUR upped their work rate, with Matty Eastwood causing problems up front and Beattie was busy.
The equaliser came from a throw which found Burnitt and he slipped a ball through to Beattie, and his cross hit an opponent's hand for a penalty.
Eastwood made it one each and that was the half time score.
The second half was all NUR with constant pressure and it was only a matter of time before pressure told as substitute Swan won another penalty as the keeper brought him down, and he took it himself to make it 2-1.
A four-man move brought the NUR their decisive third goal and wizard Harry Potter fired home his first goal for the club.
This was a fine display which the management team are delighted with, and on a day of cup action, they took advantage to move into second place.
Many thanks to Rob Constable for acting as match referee.
Elsewhere White Hart were beaten 4-2 at home in Division On, and in the only Division Two game played, Chris Moffatt earned Victoria Hotel a share of the spoils at Rawcliffe Bridge Club.
