Cup clean sweep
AFC Charter 5
Market Weighton 2
The Charter Club progressed through to the next round of the HE Dean cup with ease in the end, but had a few scares in a windy first half.
With Weighton deciding to have first use of the gale-force wind, they nearly took the lead but found Mark Hall in fine form.
Yates, Charter's towering centre half, and usually the one stopping the attackers, found himself yet again scoring to put the Charter in the lead to make it five for the season for the defender.
The lead didn't last long as Weighton capitalised on a mistake at the back due to the conditions and pulled the scores level.
The Division Three side went in front as the Charter struggled in the blustery conditions.
On the stroke of half time Gibbon restored parity with a thunderous strike from 18 yards.
The second half, with Charter now having the avantage of the conditions, saw them camped in the Weighton half missing chance after chance, with the visiting keeper denying Jackson on numerous occasions.
However he was beaten by Ramskill's strike from 40 yards out, letting fly with a glorious shot.
A minute later Gill made it four as he turned his marker superbly before slotting home with ease.
Captain Ramskill was in the mood for more now as he slotted home his second and Charter's fifth. His chances of a hat-trick were denied him as he was replaced.
With bigger games coming up, manager Munday was thinking ahead, as they were now comfortably through to the next round.
A steady performance, if not on full throttle., and Lee Thompson back after his mysterious break, was named Man of the Match.
This week AFC Charter are in cup action once more as starting their defence of the Goole and Thorne Cup away at Thorne Town.
All players to meet for 12.30pm prompt at the Charter Club.
Hedon Utd Res. 0, Viking Raiders 7
Viking Raiders progressed to the second round of the HE Dean Cup with a comfortable win at Division Two side Hedon on Saturday.
Ashley Lattimore scored the first after ten minutes, side-footing home from the edge of the area. Matt Walker, celebrating his 18th birthday, then added two superb strikes, the first a long-range effort after running from the halfway line and the second after cutting in from the left flank and curling the ball past the keeper into the top corner.
The second half was more of the same, both Lattimore and Walker completing fine hat-tricks with further strikes, and Vikings missing a host of chances before Mark Kulic put the seal on an emphatic victory with a turn and shot into the corner.
Man of the Match went to Dale Gormley.
This Saturday, Raiders return to league action with a home fixture against FC Ridings, players are to meet at Western Road for 1pm.
The club would like to thank their latest sponsor, Wayne Tabiner, for his provision of a training ball.
Hutton Cranswick Res. 4, Howden Am. 6
Cup-holders Howden travelled over the Wolds to Hutton Cranswick and were greeted by a gale-force wind and driving rain.
Playing into the wind in the first half, Howden struggled to put their game together and were penned back by a determined home side who were first to the ball in the early exchanges.
Despite the best efforts from Howden keeper Thornham, Cranswick made their early pressure tell and took the lead with a well-taken goal.
In the difficult conditions set pieces appeared the best way for Howden to get back int the game and so it proved as Steve Silvester rose to power home a corner to level things up.
Howden fell behind again when a well-flighted free kick was glanced in, but Steve Silvester quickly levelled at 2-2 as he was on the end of another corner at the far post.
It looked as though Howden were going to go in level at the break following a resolute defensive display, but a wind assisted free kick flew in to give the hosts a slender lead at the interval.
The wind and rain eased slightly for the second half which enabled Howden to string passes together and they levelled as Gorman outpaced the defence and beat the keeper easily.
Amateurs took the lead for the first time as Steve Silvester completed his hat-trick and went on to dominate the game as Gorman added his second and Barry Scott continued his good recent scoring form.
Cranswick scored a consolation goal late on, but Howden eased into the next round and were good value for their victory in what was a tricky tie, given the adverse conditions.
