Goole U14s 24, Beverley U14s 12

After a week off Goole looked to continue with their free-flowing rugby against a Beverley side which they beat convincingly last season.

Goole won the toss and decided to receive the ball and were into their running from the off as captain Liam Hughes collected the kick-off and made good ground before passing to the impressive Jordan Help. He beat a couple of players before off-loading the ball well. Goole were now well inside the Beverley half and from a penalty scrum-half Ben Jackson took a quick tap and was tackled into touch 10 metres short of the line. Goole stole Beverley's line-out, which saw Hughes drive over the corner for the first score.

Goole were showing the same confidence as in their last outing and quickly increased the score. It was 12-0 in as many minutes. Good hands again by the backs saw Rundell break free; he in turn fed Hughes, who was tackled short of the line. From the resultant scrum Goole won the ball for Hughes to power over for his second.

Further good play from the forwards saw good interplay between Jonny Pinks and Help saw the big second row power deep into Beverley territory but Goole were penalised for offside. A quick tap from Beverley caught Goole napping and it was only an excellent cover tackle from Robert Shand that saved Goole from conceding just before half-time. (Half-time: Goole 17, Beverley 0)

Goole started off the second half as they ended the first by going straight on the attack. From a Beverley scrum close to their line the front row of Digger, Ashley Law and Pinks put Beverley under pressure in the scrum. This meant the ball came out too quickly and caught Beverley's scrum-half by surprise. He spilt the ball and Jackson was on hand to fall on the ball for the easiest try he is likely to score. Moore added the conversion to make it 24 – 0.

If Goole thought it was going to be easy, Beverley had other thoughts as they began to take the game to Goole. They found a new confidence which saw their centre take the ball and beat the cover defence well to score their first try. This score sparked them into action as they threw everything at Goole. It was only the tireless work of Help who made tackle after crunching tackle that kept Beverley at bay. However, they would not be denied and following a good scrum they spun the ball out wide for the centre to score again.

With both teams now showing signs of tiredness the game went a little scrappy and was played mainly between the ten-metre lines either side of half-way until the referee brought the game to a halt. Goole played some great rugby for 40 minutes but went to sleep a little towards the end of the second half. However, another good win keeps the confidence high. Although there were some good performances throughout, there was only one winner of the man of the match - the ever-impressive Jordan Help, who made it three on the trot and cost his 40-year-old dad some extra pocket money.

Goole U16s 36, Pocklington 15

Goole entertained local rivals Pock on Sunday. Goole got off to a flying start when Timm raced in from the halfway line to score his first of three tries. Shand and Legge also crossed the line with Evisson adding two conversions to give the hosts a comfortable 24-5 half time lead.

Pock came out for the second half looking a different team and quickly scored, giving Goole the wake-up call they needed. Shand and Timm replied with further tries but the hosts were put under pressure when Pickard was sin-binned for stamping, quickly followed by Evisson for throwing a punch. This set the tone for the next five minutes, with fights breaking out until five minutes from time the referee stopped the game when a mass brawl broke out.

All in all a good performance and a vast improvement all round.

Goole RUFC Under 9s Tournament

The lads travelled to Malton and Norton for this East Yorkshire Tournament and although only conceding two tries and not losing a game, just missed out on reaching the final on try difference.

Goole 1, Driffield 1

Bradley Gott scored early in the game in a match Goole should have won and after conceding a try midway through the second half the outcome was a draw which in the end proved costly for their chance to reach the final.

Goole 7, Scarborough 0

Matty Lill 4, Will Devenish, Bradley Gott and Charlie Walton all with one apiece in a fine display by the whole team in game they knew they needed as many tries as possible.

Goole 5, Beverley 1

In what proved to be their last game of the day the team overcame a plucky Beverley side with tries from Will Devenish 2, Matty Lill, Charlie Fothergill and Liam Marshall - all one each. The Player of the Day Trophy was awarded to the whole team not only for their efforts during the matches but also when not playing and were a credit along with the travelling parents to Goole RUFC.
