Look forward and forget nightmare
Goole AFC return to league action this Saturday when they entertain Leek Town at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
The Staffordshire side were relegated to UniBond League One South after a miserable campaign in 2007-2008, but there are semblances of life returning to Harrison Park after a turbulent time of late.
They have made an unbeaten start to their league season this time around, and made FA Cup progress last Saturday.
For the Vikings, they have to put the nightmare of a 4-0 loss in the same competition against Newcastle Benfield to the back of their minds.
If allowed to fester, Goole's season is going nowhere, and positive action has been taken to improve the playing strength of the side, although what effect that does have will depend on the new faces.
Amongst them are Willie McGhie, Adam Pollock, Adam Lee, Nick Smith, Craig Morley and Jason Hardy, who actually made his debut as a substitute in last Saturday's cup clash.
Manager Nigel Danby told the Goole Times on Wednesday morning: "We had no excuses for the defeat, we were second best and now just have to look forward to the league and improving the position there."
Goole's most urgent need is to improve a defensive record that has leaked 16 goals in five games, and although that is a repetitive theme, until they do that, games are going to be mighty difficult.
Meanwhile Danny Buttle, (right 04-09-14 GT) has left the Pleasure Grounds to join Frickley Athletic. The winger was the target for Leigh Genesis in the close season and ends an 18 month stint with the club.
As you will see below, the club is holding a Meet the Manager and Chairman evening at the Pleasure Grounds, and as you will also see steps have been taken to add faces to the squad for the game on Saturday and next Tuesday's league game at Stocksbridge Park Steels, kick off 7.45pm.
Looking further ahead, the Vikings' spare date on Saturday week, which was an FA Cup day has been filled with the visit of Quorn, kick off 3pm.
