Continuing their march at the top
Buchanan Badstars continued their march towards the Premiership Title with a surprisingly easy 7-3 win over Creykes Tigers whilst favourites The Verm were unexpectedly beaten 6-4 by Peacock Pirates.
Buchanan's improved performances this season can be attributed to the superb form of their 'terrible threesome' of Natalie Merrill, Dave Hunt and Ivor Morris. Between them, this trio have scored a minimum of four points every match.
The Verm, on the other hand, have never had their big hitters on form for any length of time and have struggled to field their best players every week. The title looks destined for Weatherill Street!
Packet Hasbeens took full advantage of an extremely weakened Bottom House Bombers side to record a fully deserved 6-4 win, which takes them into second place. Mick Stainton, Neil Buck and Dennis Blanchard were all in good form in a very sporting game.
Shipmates of Swinefleet have a highly talented squad but are having a nightmare season. Their poor form continued with an 8-2 drubbing by Middle House Mavericks, who were well represented by Johnny Kidd and Ricky Harrison. The Swinefleet lads started the season with great expectations but now find themselves in the relegation zone.
Two top class wins by Andy Merrill and Anthony Raspin ensured a 6-4 win for Buchanan Badboys over the inconsistent N.U.R. Neanderthals.
In Division One Sean Neal led his Board Inn Bandits to a 6-4 win over Viking Wizards who fought all the way but just couldn't cope with the strength in depth of the Howden side who are literally cruising to the league title.
With only two sides promoted and Board Inn certain to be one of them the fight for the second spot could be fierce. Royal Predators are favourites following a very satisfying 7-3 beating of Vermuyden Vultures despite some outstanding play from young Nathan Croley. The Predators main rivals could be Marshland Menaces who did well to beat North Eastern Newbies 8-2. Colt Woollass is settling in nicely to the Old Goole side and his experience could prove invaluable in the run-in.
Liam Parry and Graham Glenwright took the honours for Royal Flush in their convincing 7-3 win over Packet Panthers who deserve better luck than they usually get while a 5-all draw was a fair result between Shipwrecks and N.U.R. Clubbers.
In Division Two another two wins from Matthew Dodson enabled Jailhouse Jokers unbeaten run to continue with a 7-3 triumph over North Eastern Flyers. The Jokers are now only four points behind the leaders Bottom House Brigade who were fortunate to scrape a 5-all tie with the ladies of Charter Cheddars who are finishing the season in style.
Andy Lloyd was man of the match in Half Moons 6-4 win over Vic Casuals who can ill afford a poor run of form with only four games remaining.
Middle House Lasses were overjoyed with their 5-all draw against Old Goole Club who won the opening three frames but then proceeded to lose the next four!
The outcome of this division is extremely hard to predict as any one of the four top placed sides are capable but Half Moon are favourites as they have one extra game to play, which could prove vital.
Jailhouse Jesters failed to fulfil their fixture with Packet Pups, and as this is their second such offence, they face expulsion from the league if they do so again.
Entries for the winter league are being taken tonight (Thursday) at The Steam Packet public house starting at 8pm. Any pub or club who would like to join please attend or ring Vic Erwin on 07966263835.
