Leaders are too strong for firsts
Woodhouse Grange 191-8
Goole Town 1st XI 77
Mission was accomplished midway through their first York Senior League Premier Division campaign, but it can be said that Goole Town firsts are rather limping towards the end of the season - a wet season it has to be said.
It hasn't helped with the stop-start nature of the campaign, especially since mid June, but the weakened side were well beaten by the league leaders Woodhouse Grange on Saturday - their fragile batting succumbing for 77, this time in pursuit of 191-8.
Steve Hicks' unexpected return - he actually was back in town to present the junior awards at Westfield - was a welcome boost for a team without talisman Dave England, and Goole on winning the toss, bowled tidily with Richard Mann and James Kerr in tandem.
Kerr made the breakthrough in the ninth over with the score on 22 with Bean caught by Ashley Hulme for 13.
However the other opener Hadfield anchored the innings with 74 as Woodhouse built a useful platform before Dwyer became the first of five victims for Hulme with the score on 80.
The scoring was slow, as Hulme found assistance, but gradually the rate did increase with Steve Burdett making an important 33 not out to steer the home side to a challenging 191-7.
It proved far too challenging for the visitors with only Ashley Hulme with 12 and Steve Hicks with 19 making double figures.
Hicks was unlucky to be run out by Steve Foster, who hung around for a long time for nine before being trapped leg before wicket to Hadfield as all the Woodhouse bowlers got in on the act.
The innings folded for 77 in 31 overs as the home side kept their lead at the top of the Premier Division especially with leading challengers Thirsk losing unexpectedly.
