Although Goole's start to the new UniBond League season has been poor, there is a chance to put that behind them on Saturday when they entertain Skillstraining Limited side Newcastle Benfield Plain at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds, kick off 3pm, in the preliminary round of the E.ON sponsored FA Cup.

Although from a league below in the pyramid, the Vikings can take nothing for granted whatsoever, with the Tynesiders unbeaten so far this term. They look a most useful outfit, if the report compiled for manager Nigel Danby is anything to go by.

And it is likely that Goole will have one or two new faces in the line-up for Saturday, that despite a fine performance in defeat against Retford on Monday afternoon, where the Vikings were desperately unlucky to end up with nothing.

However, the damage had been done for the management in the 4-2 defeat at Shepshed last Saturday, and first and foremost the team have to stop conceding goals if their season is to go anywhere but a return to the Northern Counties East League.

However, chairman Des O'Hearne in realising the urgency to bring new players in, and was a lot happier with Monday's show.

"We are real Jekyll and Hyde at the moment. I was disgusted on Saturday at Shepshed, and then we play the champions off the park for long periods 48 hours later."

Manager Nigel Danby was scathing about the penalty decision which gave Retford their late penalty winner.

"It was no Karl Rose handling the ball, their No. 2 admitted afterwards it was him and even Steward Copmell, their No. 11, told the referee it wasn't a penalty."

To be fair, Mr Street was adamant that it was Karl Rose and told the Goole Times afterwards: "Karl knows it was him, for he wasn't arguing too much."

For Saturday, there has been a massive increase in prize fund payments this season, and the winners receive £1,500.
