Drax Junior golfers fly the flag
Three Drax junior golfers have qualified for the National Skills finals on September 13 at the English Golf Unions home of golf headquarters at Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire in two of the local age groups.
Approximately 200 clubs took part involving nearly 2000 registered junior golfers nationwide and they were in the top five in each age category and can feel justifiably proud of themselves for reaching the final.
The groups were split into four age categories, two Rookie groups and two Tour groups, the eights and under. In the older Rookie group, Drax had Daniel Hunter from Camblesforth and Goole's Aaron Eastwood.
In the Tour groups, Camblesforth's Robert Banks in the 15-17 age group qualified for the third year running.
The groups had to complete 10 golf disciplines with two challenges each in the following, Driving (Full Swing), Pitching, Chipping, Bunker Work and Putting.
Three qualifying challenges were done at Drax in March and ended earlier this month and the results were entered into the National Skills website at the Union.
As well as the three who reached the finals, mention must go the juniors who took part and a special well done to Phillip Ing, Liam Ridgill, Connor Purvis and Liam Schofield who all reached the top ten in their respective age groups.
Drax Golf Club is currently a none hole course with 12 different tee positions, but from April 2009 it is hoped to have another four holes in operation for 14 holes off 18 tees.
Should anyone be interested in joining the golf section they can call Mrs. Denise Smith on (01757) 617228.
The club are also doing Taster sessions on Wednesday, September 18 from 5.30pm to 7.30pm , two seperate hourly sessions with the professional tuition from Lysa Jones, the professional from the Oaks.
All ages are welcome.
