The ten men do the trick
Airmyn 138-9
Hill Top 52
Ten-man Airmyn recorded, what was ultimately a comfortable win over their old friends from Hill Top on Saturday.
However, it was a performance which left a lot to be desired, with both teams missing regulars, but although the visitors did have eleven men, their key man was missing.
Airmyn started well enough with a 60-run opening partnership between Smith and Holah on 14 overs, which seemed to set things up for a challenging total, but the latter fell for 31 and Gavin Clark followed soon after.
Smith looked well set, but was left fuming when given caught behind on 30, and 77-3 became 98-7 with disturbing alacrity as the batting faltered against a rather weak Hill Top attack.
Some semblance of respectablility was added, with Will Sparks making 20 and then last pair, Glyn Catterall and the youthful Liam Smith, showed the rest how it should be done.
Smith was given run out with Catterall finishing unbeaten on 17 and 138-9 was defendable.
And with the bowling firing on all cylinders, they were to win rather comfortably, with Thomson and Sparks making early inroads and at 16-3 the writing was on the wall.
Hemmerman stubbornly resisted, but around him the wickets tumbled, with Thomson 5-14 and Sparks 2-29 leaving the Top 38-7.
The Cottingham side had only pride to play for but the innings was wrapped up by Holah's first ball, a run-out, and then Fielder wrapped it up.
This Saturday Patrington are the opponents as the Percy Arms side look for revenge for an early-season humbling.
