There was a Sunday afternoon of celebration and fun to mark the 150th anniversary of Carlton Towers Cricket Club over the Bank Holiday weekend, but on the field furrowed brows remain for the club's first team, who are back in trouble in their quest to avoid relegation to Division Three of the York Senior League.

With past players joining the current ones, together with guests in a 20/20 match on Sunday, including Stuart Coleman, Abhay Sharma (pictured, back page), Gareth Townend, Gareth Roberts and many, many more, the first team were smarting from a defeat against Beverley Town 24 hours earlier which put them back in the relegation battle in Division Two.

Unfortunately, at the time of going to print, there had been no result received from Monday's trip to the East Coast at Sewerby. Time is running out for the Fishpond side, whose form has improved markedly in the second half of the campaign, but who are having to come to terms with their disappointing first half.

Their cause has not been helped by the weather at times, but they have to concentrate on the remaining games and collect as many points as possible, especially with those around them scrapping away for several shock results.

Better news in Division Five B, though, where the seconds had a terrific weekend, winning both their games at the Fishpond to climb into fourth place in the table.

On Saturday they nervously edged home against Cawood seconds with a fine all-round performance from Simon Boddye seeing them to the 30 point win.

He took 3-5 ( pictured right 28-08-23 GT), in restricting Cawood to 100 all out and then hit an unbeaten 32 to steer them home by three wickets after Nick Kline had made a useful 27 earlier in the innings.

On Monday afternoon their task was far more straight forward as they beat Bolton Percy by 102 runs.

Their batting was far more assured in reaching 210-3 in their 45 overs with Hoe making 96 not out and Kline 47 and the opposition were never in the hunt for chasing that as the bowlers got to work.

This time it was Steve Landers with 5-41 and David Squires with 3-25 who left Bolton Percy over a hundred runs shoet in competing a second 30 point win in the space of 48 hours.
