Selby IV 104-8

Goole Town III 105-4

Goole Town's third string were the only side in action on Saturday and it was a credit to the Sandhill Lane officials that they managed two matches at their home after the recent rains.

And Chris Sugden's young charges exploited the difficult conditions well in running out six-wicket victors to take a step nearer the Division Five championship in their first season.

Selby skipper Mel Neary lost the toss and it was no surprise when they were put in to bat.

Kevin and Tom Rich put on 24 for the first wicket but run-scoring was difficult against useful opening bowlers Mark Hinchcliffe and Will O'Donnell (4-30).

Run machine Gary Wright (41) kept Selby in the game with another good innings, but Goole never relaxed their grip on the game as the home side were restricted to 104-8 off their 40 overs.

Goole openers Chris Sugden and Dan Cooper started slowly, but gradually increased the tempo. The partnership was broken with the score on 77 when Jason Rowbottom had Cooper brilliantly caught by Tom Rich for 37.

Those two have used experience and youth to the full in giving their side good starts so far.

Rowbottom (2-39) then bowled Sugden for 30 and Mick Bell (2-22) grabbed two more wickets before Rob Jacobs (25 not out) eased the visitors home.
