Hosts in good nick in win
Jailhouse FC 4, Sherpa 2
The visitors started the game well, creating chances one after the other in the opening ten minutes of this Scunthorpe League encounter.
But with Stu Clark and James Constable in fine form at the back, Jailhouse stood firm. Sherpa should have been two or three up by the half-time break, but a sloppy back pass was picked up by Sandris Cinermanis, who coolly placed the ball into the net to give Jailhouse a shock half-time lead.
The second half started at pace, but the home side made it two when Gary Stephenson broke free from his marker and went round the keeper and slotted into an empty net. The third followed shortly after when Stephenson broke free again, but was upended in the box and up stepped Matty Eastwood to crack home the penalty.
The pace on the flanks was the key to the Jailhouse going four goals up, Nathan Stannard down the left side and Lee Moore down the right switching play, outpacing their markers to allow Sandris Cinermanis to score his second goal of the game.
The home side had to hold firm for the last quarter of an hour after Sherpa piled on the pressure, scoring twice in five minutes, but Brendan Allen and Nick Johnson had worked hard all game and neither was going to give the points away, breaking up play superbly in the middle of the park.
Special mention to Rob Rockett, who has been moved to left back and had two great games for the club, showing how versatile a player he his.
Man of the Match went to Sandris Cinermanis
A big thank you to Sean and Sheila for the match ball sponsor in memory of Sean's father Geoff Broadhead, who recently passed away. May his memory live on for many a year.
