Top of the pile in style
Carlton Towers Cricket Club under 15s have won the Pontefract & District Junior League title, having defeated Featherstone Town in the final League play off which took place at South Kirkby.
The Juniors, managed by Club President Richard Everatt, competed in the East Division of the League, playing 13 matches and remained undefeated throughout the season winning 11 and having two matches rained off. The only defeat came in their knockout tie against Old Sharlston. Featherstone Town won the West Division and also were undefeated until the play off final.
The Carlton Towers side featured several players who also play Senior Cricket for the Club, in particular Mark Spetch and Grant Nicholson in the First XI, Will Brown and Scott Woffenden for the seconds and Matthew Smith, Oliver Lister, Tom Perkins, Josh Haines in the Thirds, whilst Josh Cruise has made his mark at Selby and earned a place in the First XI.
A number of the successful sides also play cricket at Representative level. Mark Spetch and Grant Nicholson represented York, who won the Under 15 Lords Taverners Cricket festival, whilst Matthew Smith and Scott Woffenden were members of the Pontefract League squad.
