One of those promising young medium pace bowlers in the Goole ranks wrote his name in the record books on Saturday.

Although unable to delve too deeply into the long, long history of Goole C.C., officials at Westfield who have memories over the last fifty years or so are unable to remember the last time a junior, in this instance Louie Moore, 16 and a tablespoonful, took seven wickets in an innings for a senior side.

He took 7-7 off six overs including three in four balls in the first over of New Earswick's reply to a modest 98 on, admittedly, a difficult 22-yard track.

Moore has bowled consistently well this term without the major hauls, but he put it right on Saturday and the York side were skittled out for 33 in 15.1 overs and just over an hour of mayhem, where batsmen were padding up so quickly they had to make sure they had the right equipment with them.

Few had a bat, that is a fact, with only 22 scored off the bat, 12 of them by Shaun Wilson, who hit the only two boundaries of the innings.

Moore took all the plaudits as he bowled accurately and let the ball do the rest.

Earlier, Goole found things little easier on a damp track with rain never too far away, but thankfully the monsoons of earlier in the week had gone, only to return briefly overnight and into Sunday.

Most of the batsmen got in of sorts, either high single figures, or just into double figures, but Hewitson, Pepper and Reeson also found conditions to their liking.

Unfortunately they were to find out just how testing it was.
