Veteran Bob set for the Manx Grand Prix
Bob Farrington, a 54-year-old safety consultant from Rawcliffe, is busy preparing his bikes for the 2008 Manx Grand Prix, raced around the TT circuit in the Isle of Man.
He has been helped this year by three local companies - Ady's Workshop of West Cowick and Wetheralls Body Repairs ,also of West Cowick and Farrington Safety and Training Limited of Rawcliffe.
He has also received tyre sponsorship from a York-based company - Appleton Piling Limited. Bob's girlfriend Tracey and her daughters Alyssa and Molly-Leigh are not only his biggest fans but his pit crew at all the meetings.
Bob played Rugby League for many years in the Selby and York areas, retiring at the age of 42 because 'every tackle hurt!' He carried on racing motorbikes, though, as it only hurts when he falls off! Talking of crashes - in 2004 Bob has a big crash in the Junior Manx GP race, crashing at Greeba Bridge at over 120mph.
He hit a wall, flew over three gardens, through a four-foot hedge (narrowly missing a concrete post) and landed in a huge pile of grass cuttings! It took the marshalls more than five minutes to find him.
Bob will be racing two 2007 Suzuki GSXRs - 600cc in the Junior race on August 27 and 750cc in the Senior race on August 29.
He also competes regularly at Scarborough (Oliver's Mount) and Cadwell on his Kawasaki ZXR 400's, most recently at the Cock o' the North National meeting, where he achieved two ninth places, another ninth at Darley Moor and at Cadwell, where he achieved second place, and in action above.
