More power shown by the leaders
Drax 1st XI 194-5
Burn 1st XI 143-8
Drax openers Luke Edwards and Harvey Thomas made a careful start to the innings against local rivals Burn in Saturday's York Vale league One class.
However, they picked up the pace with some well-struck boundaries, including a lost ball from a six by Edwards.
The pair went on to produce an opening stand of 82 from 20 overs before Thomas fell lbw to Abbott for 36.
Steve Smith was next in and continued to keep the runs flowing and the score had moved on to 134 when Edwards was bowled for 52 by one that kept low from Parker.
Smith fell shortly afterwards for 29 and Burn did well to restrict Drax to 60 runs off the final 11 overs. It required the aggressive running of Keith Powell (16) and Kevin Thomas (27 not out) to get Drax to a total of 194.
Burn's reply got off to a slow start as Steve Smith and Darren Brinded bowled tightly and made early breakthroughs as the batsmen struggled to get going.
The Drax change bowling continued to keep the pressure on as Burn reached 40-5 from 25 overs. There was more ambition shown in the closing overs as Croad went on to top score with 38 but, despite some late order hitting, the Drax total was never threatened as Burn got to 143-8 after their 40 overs.
The result keeps Drax sitting on top of Division 1 of the league.
