Dringhouses 91

Carlton Towers I 92-2

Carlton Towers moved out of the bottom two in Division Two of the York Senior League, thanks to an eight-wicket success over Dringhouses, who now move down into those relegation places.

It is only the second time this term that the side from the Fishpond Field have been out of trouble, and it comes at a good time with a sequence of results that in normal circumstances would amount to a promotion push.

Once again the Carlton Towers bowling attack took charge of the match and the destiny of the points, with Paul Wright taking another three-wicket haul, conceding only 25 runs in a sixteen-over spell. Mark Spetch, defying his age-generated inexperience, bowled with maturity to take 2-27 from his ten overs.

Apart from John Crowe who made 22, Mick Kenyon with 13 and Ian Bewes who came in at number eight and made an unbeaten 25, no other batsmen made double figures.

Callum Reilly was also in good form with the ball. His pace consistently troubled the home batsmen to the effect that he took 2-14 from his eight overs and took the last wicket to leave only 92 runs required for victory.

Despite losing Jonathan Dilks for 24 and Darren Graves for only four, Paul Wright who made 21 and Mark Holmes an undefeated 35, including a massive six that dislodged a tile which broke a conservatory roof, saw Carlton Towers home in only 18 overs.

The next two weeks are fundamental to the safety of the Carlton Towers push for Division Two respectability, with home matches against Duncombe Park and Osbaldwick.

On this form, though, the side looks good enough for a top-four place, making the last third of the season a happy ride.

Carlton Towers II 130-8, Dringhouses II 225- 4

Following the success of last week's emphatic success at Rowntrees, Carlton Towers II fell back down to earth with a disappointing draw against an ordinary Dringhouses II at the Fishpond Field.

The result was a serious set back to their hopes of taking the second promotion spot, which looks decidedly unlikely particularly with the lack of consistency showed by the side this term.

Dringhouses batted first and with four out of the top six batsmen making big scores, any hopes of a Carlton Towers recovery was never on the cards.

Only Steve Landers managed to produce bowling figures of any respectability, taking 2-24 from his 12 overs and although Simon Boddye restricted the scoring to three runs an over, there was little support available. Dringhouses made 225-4, a total that was challenging but not insurmountable, if recent batting successes were to continue.

It was not to be though as the side was always on the back foot. Steve Watson made 30 and Richard Knapp 22, but only Simon Boddye, coming in at number eight and who made 20 made any serious inroads into the target.

Dringhouses used six bowlers but after taking out the Carlton openers, the result was never in any doubt and there was not going to be any repeat of the success in the earlier fixture.
