Good team effort keeps double hopes on track
Goole Town's third eleven are still on course for a league and cup 'double' - this after thrashing hosts Stockton and Hopgrove in York on Saturday afternoon.
Once again it was an excellent team effort, based on solid batting on a pitch that was far from easy, and then the experience of Mark Hinchcliffe and the youth of Ashton Nottingham dismantled the home reply in clinical fashion.
They still head affairs comfortably in Division Five of the York Vale League, and their up and coming final with Bishopthorpe on Sunday week is a prospect to look forward to.
Once more captain Chris Sugden led from the front with 33 in an opening stand of 46 with Danny Cooper and all their batsmen reached double figures, Scott Thorpe with a pleasant 30, Dan Neal 16 and then on or two good shots from Hinchcliffe raised the scoring rate and 152 on a difficult track was no mean target.
The home side's reply was in tatters from the start and only the opener Collinson with 29 delayed the inevitable for 24 overs.
He made 29 out of an all out total of 50, but his ten colleagues mustered 13 off the bat with eight extras.
It took Hinchcliffe four overs to find the radar, but once he did, the Stockton and Hopgrove batsmen - and they are not the worst side in the league by any means - had no answer.
He took 5-19 and his last five overs cost him one run and he took four wickets.
Nottingham lent good support with 3-8 from four overs and Jack Knowles took 1-2.
Their next opponents are Burn seconds this week, and with a good team spirit they will look to crack on and finish the season as they have done so far.
It was the aim of the club to blood youngsters with experience in this league from the start, and it continues to bear dividends and the part that Jason Greaves and Scott Biggs have played cannot be under-valued.
