Under the leadership of popular local landlord Brian Knight, Bottom House Brigade have slowly and surely been transformed from a middle-of-the-table side into one that stands a chance to be crowned Division Two Champions.

Knight has picked up some fantastic new signings over the past month or so who all have solid experience at a much higher level than this.

Their 6-4 defeat of Vic Casuals underlined the quality at this level of players like Jim Stevens, Kev Fagg, Dave Whur, Paul Simms, Neil Piper and Mark Simms. Couple this with the up and coming talents of young players like Cameron Morris and you have got a very decent squad of players.

Never one to shy from the limelight, a happy Knight said: "My partner Jayne and I have worked hard at getting two teams to play from our pub. I treat the lads well and Jayne feeds them well with hot snacks for all players at half time.

"We want everyone to be happy! Local pubs are having a hard time at present but we feel that friendly rivalry games like pool are essential to our business so we encourage it all the way."

Elsewhere in this division matters were not quite so rosy as no score card was returned for the game between Middle House Lasses and North Eastern Flyers and due to an emergency work callout for four of their players Packet Pups could not get the minimum of three players to travel to Half Moon at Reedness.

The other two games that were played saw two marvellous home victories. Old Goole Club proved too strong for the females of Charter Cheddars and won 8-2 even though Angie Johnson and Chris Coupland brought a couple of the lads down to size with some great play.

In the other game Jailhouse Jokers move to within seven points of the leaders with their 8-2 derby success over Jailhouse Jesters. Martin Coolledge and Bobby Bundy are class acts in this grade.

Meanwhile in Division One Steph Walker's Royal Predators consolidated second spot following their 6-4 win over Liam Parrys Royal Flush. This was a real tussle from start to finish with some smashing frames most memorable of which came from Chris Lloyd and Sam Lyth.

Marshland Menaces fielded a full side this week but could only manage a 5-all draw with arch-enemies Vermuyden Vultures in a tense and exciting Old Goole derby that starred Mike Lumley and Danny Nicholls.

A draw was the outcome of the Shipwrecks of Swinefleet versus Packet Panthers match even though Packet led 4-1 at half time. Joe Holt is a fantastic young player and won both his frames in style and Emma Longster demonstrated why she is Goole's Ladies Individuals champion with her two clinical wins.

Board Inn Bandits are now twenty points clear at the top of this division and cruised to a very comfortable 8-2 win over N.U.R. Clubbers.

The Howden lads are now only eight games away from promotion to the Premiership and then the real test begins. Their star-studded squad have dropped twenty-three frames already in this lower division and a few good judges feel they may come up short of whats required to win the big one. Only time will tell lads!

Peacock Pirates good run in the Premiership came to an abrupt halt with a 7-3 thrashing by Creykes Tigers who were inspired by wins from a trio of gentlemen of the game, Roly Curley, Kev Morrell and Phil Cowling.

The Rawcliffe lads are ardent supporters of the Goole League and have a wonderful sporting attitude to the game.

Buchanan Badstars will be over the moon with their 6-4 derby win over Buchanan Badboys who never got to grips with the delicate skills of Ivor Morris and the solid determination of Dave Hunt.

Packet Panthers are starting to play really well and came back from 4-1 down to break the hearts of Shipmates by winning every frame in the second half for a 6-4 triumph. Stunning play from Neil Buck and Jamie Fox galvanised Packet to this unexpected but very satisfying victory.

Wayne Vause pulled a couple of master strokes out of his bag of tricks to propel The Verm to a hard fought 6-4 win over Middle House Mavericks while Jason Pettican and John Turner both turned in performances well worthy of note.

Bottom House Bombers thoroughly enjoyed their best performance of the season but were slightly flattered by their 10-0 drubbing of N.U.R. Neanderthals whose only luck was bad luck! For once Rennie Calvert, Steve Purves, Geoff Rankin and John Greaves all played with confidence alongside the sheer brilliance of the maturing Anthony Myers.
