Holders Folkton and Flixton remain on course for a hat-trick of Readman Cup titles after disposing of strong contenders Hornsea who lost by 44 runs.

They joined Carlton Towers from our area (see page 70) in the emis with Neil Elvidge, who won the man-of-the-match award in last season's final, again in fine form, cracking 93.

He was supported by Damon Gormley with 27 and Dave Ellis 25 as Flixton moved to 152-2. Richard Medforth then claimed 3-43 whilst an economical eight over spell from Ryan Kitrk cost a mere 12 runs as Flixton were dismissed in the last over for 204.

The home side's reply was fronyed by Mick Cadmore with 42 and Alistair Kirk who made 33 but for wickets apiece for West Indian Tennyson Roach (4-30) and Damon Gormley (4-21) had Hornsea all out for 160.

Whitkirk's dream of reaching the final of the Readman Trophy for the fourth time in six years evaporated when they suffered a 59 run home defeat at the hands of Fenner in an all Division Two clash.

The defining contribution came from Fenner opening batsman Doug Park, who batted throught his side's innings to make an unbeaten 80 in a final total of 155-9. Andy Gummerson was the Leeds side's most effective bowler, with 3 for 22, whilst spinner John Leece recorded a useful 2-15 and Richard Simpson claimed 2-29.

Seventeen-year-old Luke Robinson then produced a devastating six-over spell which earned him 4-10 as, with Paul Bell taking 2-13 and Richie Barker 2-32, Whitkirk were dismissed for 96.

Fenner now meet Carlton Towers in this Sunday's semi final at Marfleet.

The only home batsman to make any mark was Paul Wilkie who made 28 from the No. 6 berth.

League newcomers Hull and YPI, who currently lead division three, came close to beating second division pace-setters Ripon, who eventually emerged with a 9-run victory. Paul Nel starred for Ripon when his unbeaten 89 helped the Cityzens post a total of 169 all out. YPI's best bowling came from Will Parker with 3 for 24, and Gary Lound who took 3-35. Martin Weatkin then responded with 36 but a 3-17 spell from Jan Dirk Van Dyk kep YPI's batsmen at bay and restricted the Hull side to 160-9.
