Struggle for runs ends in defeat
Hull Zingari 114-3
Goole Intermediates 112-5
With the weather having relented over the weekend, Goole Intermediates were able to travel to Hull Zingari on Sunday for their latest York Intermediate league game.
Unfortunately, it was to prove a losing exercise as they were comfortably beaten by seven wickets, with only Ben Earl once more the major contributor with the bat in a total of 112-5 in 40 overs on a pitch understandably slow in pace and hard to score on.
The ever-promising wicket keeper was sixth out at 100 in the 33rd over, having hit three fours in his long vigil against accurate bowling from all the Zingari attack.
Goole slipped to 9-2 within the first three overs as Scare bowled Richard Jacobs and Matthew Fenwick, but Earl received some support from Ashton Nottingham and Nicky Holah, and then Louie Moore.
However, only 12 runs in the last seven overs meant that Zingari had to fancy their chances at the tea break, needing only 113 to win.
And the perfect innings in reply was played by opener Frankish, who carried his bat for an unbeaten half century as the target was reached in the 26th over.
He had good support, indeed lent good support, too, to the other batsmen, who all reached double figures.
The Goole attack tried hard, but conceded boundaries on a regular basis, although Nicky Holah did take two quick wickets near the end as he finished with 2-23 in four overs and Graves was the other wicket-taker with 1-25 in five.
Earl's good day with the bat was complemented by two smart catches behind the stumps, but they slid to defeat with plenty of time remaining.
They have a three-week break now before their game at home in early August, but there is still much confidence in the younger element at Westfield. Once again there will be two sides comprising chiefly of youngsters out on the same afternoon.
