One hundred per cent for local rider

Published on 17th July 2008 in Sport

It proved to be the perfect weekend at Cadwell Park for local racer Gareth Atkins from Goole.

Gareth, who is in only his second season of racing, stormed to victory in every race on board his Honda CB500.  Qualifying proved disastrous as Gareth (29) had to pull out due to technical problems which put him on the back of the grid.

However, unperturbed he fought from the back to take his madden victory. Later in the day he showed it wasn't luck and again took a surprising victory, again from the back of the grid.

Sunday and it was text-book racing as Gareth, set pole, took two wins in the near perfect conditions, rounding off a fantastic weekend of racing.

A jubilant Gareth told the Goole Times: "It's been a long time coming, I'm in my second year of racing and each round I've been steadily improving.

"I was hoping for a top three position at Cadwell, but never the success I've had.

"Four wins from four races - I still can't believe it. I've got to say a huge thanks to everyone who has helped me over the years; especially Penny and my number one fan, son Charlie."

Gareth is currently sitting in third in the New Era championship. Unfortunately he is unable to attend the next round at Snetterton due to lack of finances as he is funding himself throughout his racing experience, but Gareth is looking forward to the following round at Donnington where, hopefully, he will continue his recent success.

If anyone is interested in sponsoring Gareth in his quest to clinch the CB500 cup championship, please contact him on 07929 006993.

Right, Gareth shows delight on Monday after his weekend achievements. (17-07-53 GT).
