Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League
Following a reviewal hearing involving club representatives, the League Committee has confirmed the deduction of points in respect of three incidents involving clubs including players who were registered members of other affiliated clubs. Accordingly, Cawood in division 4A have been docked 30 points and Pocklington II in division 5A have lost 60 points for two infringements. The incidents occurred on the opening day of the season and the games have been awarded to the two opposing sides, Bubwith and Huntington.
Premier Division
Woodhouse Grange are threatening to run away with the league title as they have now opened up a 65 point lead after beating second placed Goole Town by 5 wickets at Westfield. Goole were able to post a useful score as five batsmen contributed to their 208-6 with all but one wicket falling to Paul Grewer (5-73). Ashley Hulme top scored with 50 whilst Anthony Gibbins 33, Dan Murphy 33, Mark Holmes 36 and Dave England 29no all made useful runs. Woodhouse's successdul reply was led by Simon Dwyer with 65 with Joel Hughes making 26 and Mike Burdett seeing his side over the line at 212-5 with an unbeaten 47.
Division One
The two bottom sides clashed at Pocklington, where the home side's last pair were able to gain a draw which keeps their side 10 points ahead of Scarborough who narrowly missed gaining their first win of the season. Martin Laidler top scored for the Coastliners with 76 whilst S Cooper 56 also made a half century. Other runs in a total of 226-8 came from A Stones 28 and W Gibson 34 whilst Joss Room took 3-69. In reply John Chaplin hit 54 and Neil Jackson 36 as Pocklington gained maximum batting points at 200-9 with Ollie Stephenson's 4-47 in 10 overs almost sealing an away win.
Division Two
Eleventh placed Carlton Towers had a good victory at Bolton Percy to move above their opponents after winning by 8 wickets. The game was a personal triumph for Paul Wright whose 4 for 16 helped dismiss the hosts for 95 in 41.4 overs before his unbeaten 41, together with 23no by Mark Chambers saw Carlton knock off the runs in 26.2 overs. Karl Martin's 27 was the only ray of sunshine for Bolton.
Fourth Division Round Up
Stuart Baxter hit 115 and Richard Nicholson 55 as they shared a third-wicket stand of 123 to help Cawood post a total of 259-5 against visiting Malton and Old Malton. Their opponents then made a fine attempt at matching their opponents as they replied with 241-8 thanks to a super seventh wicket stand of 128 between Tom Audsley and Stephen Varey. Coming together when Malton were staring down the barrel at 75-7 the pair lifted the score to 203 before they were parted with Audsley hitting 111 and Varey making 44. Their prowess enabled Malton to draw at 241-8.
The top of the table clash in Division 4B was abandoned early in the second innings when leaders Pickering had made 38-1 in reply to Welton & Brough's 182-7. The resulting draw enabled Woodhouse Grange to close the gap after gaining much the better of a draw against Stamford Bridge. Andrew Bilton 61 and James Rudd were the major factors in Grange's 224-8 whilst Yorkshire Ladies Laura Swinfield propped up Stamford's non threatening reply as she made 34no in a total of 129-5.
