Vikings await an Under 19 place
Goole AFC are awaiting confirmation from Tuesday night's Annual General Meeting of the Northern Under 19 Alliance that they could return to the league after a season's absence.
The Vikings, who mothballed the team in 2007-2008, applied for membership once more for the new season up and coming and their side will be run by current player and qualified coach Danny Buttle.
Through his work with the East Riding at Hull and in Goole, being involved with youngsters from 15 years of age, Danny is confident that he and Ammy Ninje, who also played for Goole last season, can take up the mantle well served by Mike Stannard, Andy Taylor and Tex Williamson for several seasons and continue to serve the first team with up and coming players - hopefully local.
And to say it doesn't work is not strictly true with James O'Neill from Thorne, now a first team regular and with Andy Jackson, Jamie Jackson, Calvin Wheldrake and several more having experienced first team football from the previous Under 19 side.
The pressures put on teams now to meet the financial demands of non-league football, which increase year on year, even more so with the introduction of being able to name five substitutes from August, will allow for members of the Under 19s to sit on the bench at some time and gain experience at more senior level.

Training starts shortly
Meanwhile the Vikings return to training on July 1 and their pre-season programme will be announced in the next couple of weeks with plenty of games to attune themselves prior to the season proper on Saturday, August 16.
The league fixtures, subject to the constitution of clubs being passed officially at this weekend's AGM, will be out later this month and the draws for the opening rounds of the FA Cup and FA Trophy in early July.
New sponsor
The Vikings will also be unveiling their new short sponsors for the coming season shortly, and are delighted to have agreed a deal with the company involved.
