New Earswick II 52
Goole Town 2nd XI 177
Goole seconds had another comfortable afternoon in York Senior league Division Five as they easily disposed of New Earswick by 125 runs on Saturday.
They bowled out the North Yorkshire side for 52 in pursuit of a challenging 177 on a difficult pitch, mastered mostly by the veteran Goole club captain Steve Foster with 74.
Opening with Jake Mahoney, in the absence of Neil Webster and Mark Shipp, the record run-maker for the club is finding life comfortable enough helping the youngsters along, and although he added 44 with captain Barry Clements, it was the 68 with Ben Earl that was more significant.
Foster may be in the autumn of his career, but wicket-keeper Earl is in the early spring of his, and 32 with one four helped to the final total of 177 with seven balls remaining of their allotted 45.
The young Earl must be knocking on the door of the first team if he continues to add runs to his undoubted ability with the gloves.
Any doubts that Goole could not protect that total were lifted in the 11th over.
New Earswick had limped to 17-0 off the first ten, but they lost four in the next two overs without advancing the total and never recovered from that.
Mark West and James Kerr did the damage, a boost for both young bowlers for whom much is expected and although they have experienced some tough lessons in the first team, it never does any harm to step down and ply your trade in the seconds - that is what the team is there for.
After that flurry od wickets, the only crumb of comfort for New Earswick is that they passed 50 before succumbing to Moore and the spin of Ben Lamb.
Three batsmen reached double figures, but none higher that 12 and Goole raced to the win inside 25 overs.
