Two superb wins from Wayne Vause helped The Verm to a satisfying 6-4 away win over Premiership rivals Middle House Mavericks in the opening week of the Goole Pool League Summer season.

Vause was well supported by Kev Harrison, whilst Geoff Reynard starred for the home side.

Under Andy Hurson's leadership The Verm will once again take some beating.

Creykes Tigers sent out an early warning to expect very little on visits to Rawcliffe as they blasted Peacock Pirates 7-3. Consistency is not a word associated with Creykes and it will be interesting to see if Kev Morrell's lads can keep this great form going over the full 18 weeks of the season.

Bottom House Bombers adjusted well to the top division by beating N.U.R. Neanderthals 7-3 and athough some frames were scrappy Steve Purves, Rennie Calvert and Nathan Clayton showed flashes of brilliance.

Division One saw the very welcome debut of Board Inn Bandits of Howden to the Goole League.

They certainly lived up to their tall reputation by slamming N.U.R. Clubbers 8-2 for this week's highest winning score.

Sean Neal has got a real side together and the likes of Dave Stevens, Dean Logan, Darren Malcolmson, Mike Eddom and Gary Yates look a safe bet to gain entry to the the Premiership next season. Welcome aboard, lads!

Shipwrecks of Swinefleet stuttered to a 6-4 win over Packet Panthers, although Bob Crossley's new signing Martin Hill failed to sparkle.

Marshland Menaces were over the moon with their unexpected 6-4 win away to Vermuyden Vultures, whose talented players seldom do the business.

Royal Flush sneaked a welcome 6-4 win over Royal Predators but opinion is divided as to how both sides will compete at this level following last season's promotion.

Tommy Tether won both his frames for North Eastern Newbies in their 6-4 win over the Viking Wizards, who can do better than what they showed in this contest.

In Division Two, despite personally losing twice Matthew West was still happy as his Vic Casuals recorded a 6-4 debut win over Bottom House Brigade. It's a long way to Tipperary and only time will tell how good his side really are.

Half Moon Hornets started their campaign with a hard fought 6-4 triumph over the youthful Packet Pups who played really well despite their inexperience.

Unfortunately both of Goole's ladies teams lost this week!

Despite playing well, Middle House Lasses got beat 7-3 away to North Eastern Flyers wheras the ladies of Charter Cheddars went down 6-4 to Cary Dean's Old Goole Club. Shame on you, boys!
