Marching on to Wembley
Published on 22nd May 2008 in Sport
It is a big play-off weekend in the Coca Cola league this weekend with games on Saturday, Sunday and Monday to decide who joins the already promoted sides from the regular season.
For seven-year-old Billy Redshaw of Goole, he has won the trip of a lifetime to Wembley Stadium on Sunday after winning a competition on a local radio station to be a mascot for Leeds United in their Division One play-off tie with Yorkshire rivals Doncaster Rovers. Billy answered two questions correctly in an on-line competition over the last weekend and found out on Monday evening that he was a winner.
Father Colin, a true Peacock fan, had already bought his ticket for the occasion and now he will be down at the new Wembley to see United try to take a step back towards the big time.
Mum Sharon told the Goole Times on Tuesday: "I'm not sure who is more excited, Billy or me and Colin, but it is a day he is never going to forget, but I don't know if I will be able to go.
"It involves going to queue for tickets, and I would be nowhere near Colin anyway.
He will walk out with captain Frazer Richardson and the team just before 3pm on Sunday.
We have to be impartial here but enjoy your day, Billy.
