Prolific duo bag four apiece
Farsley Celtic 0
Goole Tn. Girls U14s 8
The girls were away at Farsley for this must-win encounter to ensure they were still in with a real chance of claiming third spot in this very competitive West Riding League Division One.
With only 10 players available on match day, the girls had a lot to do to ensure they got the result they needed from this game.
In the end Kirstie Nicholls and Jessica Tait had a field day with four goals apiece in an eight goal drubbing. (right, 24-04-21 SU)
Despite many efforts at goal, Farsley's keeper had a great game, and it was 21 minutes before Goole finally got a shot past the keeper and into the back of the net.
This settled Goole, resulting in the remainder of the half being a great display of teamwork from all the players. Neat passing, strong running, great coverage at the back and a battling midfield resulted in further opportunity for Goole's strikers.
These were taken well, none more so than Goole's fourth goal which came from Jessica Tait, a pile-driver of a shot, sweetly struck on the volley to thunder into the back of the net from well outside the 18-yard box. Goole went into the break five goals in front, with no reply from the home side.
The second half saw Farsley come out strong, not having given up in any way, shape or form, which is a credit to this group of girls. In fact it was Farsley who came closest on a number of occasions to scoring first in the second half - one such attempt from a corner having to be cleared from the goal line by an outfield player. However, Goole soon started to get back into their stride and pile on the pressure going forward.
Some good ball out from the back, clever balls through from midfield, coupled with the quick feet of Kirtsy Nicholls and Jess Tait resulting in another three goals being scored before the final whistle. All the girls played some great football and it was a pleasure to watch.
The result means that the team is now just one point behind Bradford City and four points in front of Howden Clough, with all to play for in the remaining games of the season - next week sees the girls at home against local rivals York City.
Morley Spurs U16s 4 Goole Town Girls 2
Goole's disappointing 2008 continued at Leeds-based Morley on a windswept Saturday morning.
The team had a lot of absentees once more, including Poppy Bulmer, Amy Quantick, Rebecca Cairney, Megan Oldridge, Rebecca Shipp and joint captain Becky Walker, who has left the club, so it was always going to be a tall order to get a result.
It all looked so promising in the first half. With a strong wind behind them Goole started the game well and always looked dangerous going forward and got their rewards with two well-taken goals from leading scorer Abbie Wilkinson.
Morley also looked dangerous on the counter attack and was unlucky to see a header rebound off the crossbar. Goole keeper Louise Ramsden had to be on top form on more than one occasion.
With the wind picking up even more in the second half it was always going to be difficult to defend against a strong-looking Spurs attack and two early goals gave the home side a huge lift.
Goole came back fighting and with only 10 minutes remaining nearly got back in front when a Wilkinson shot was brilliantly saved by the home keeper. Morley came back strongly and two late goals gave the home side victory.
Credit must go to the Goole girls who, although seriously weakened, gave everything and were unlucky not to get something from the game.
Idle Juniors 0,
Goole Town Girls U11 6
Goole's youngsters took another step towards the League Championship with a commanding 6-0 success at highly-placed Idle.
Facing a strong breeze in the first half, Goole still dominated the game but only led one-nil at the interval through a goal by Issabelle Hassleman. This was partly due to some bad luck in front of goal and a good performance by the home keeper.
In the second period Goole were completely on top with a hat-trick by Emily Lappin, who scored two carbon-copy goals from short corners both hit into the roof of the net from narrow angles. Jamie Allan also scored a typical goal and with an own goal from a Leah Dennis corner the victory was complete.
A competent all-round performance with Farrah Fielder in goal not in trouble but she rose to the occasion on one break in the game, saving at point blank range.
Goole need just two more wins to make the League mathematically safe and perhaps the only question is whether the team can complete their twenty fixtures, having won every game.
