One Thorne side down, and now for the other in last four

Thorne Town 0

AFC Charter 2

Charter overcame a tricky-looking quarter final at Thorne Town on Saturday, and now face the Colliery side in the last four, to decide who will meet Sutton Rovers in the final. of the Goole and Thorne Cup.

There is always a competitive edge to any meetings of Goole and Thorne based sides, however this was not the case for the Charter, who fired on all cylinders from the off, even without several first team regulars.

The Doncaster League side did try to mix it, but the Charter were the stronger in every department, attacking at every opportunity, only to be pulled back on numerous occasions by the home assistant's flag.

Charter made the breakthrough from the robust Jamie Jackson, who hammered the ball home from close range.

He was a menace to the Thorne side all through the game alongside his strike partner Andy Gill, who looks back to form after a long injury lay-off.

Thorne lost one of their midfield players following a high challenge on Chris Costello of his own making.

Charter's midfield were strong with Hoare and Constable dominating, and although the hosts had their moments they found a rather uncompromising back four in their way.

The second half saw Charter increase their the lead after a brilliant cross field ball from Constable found Blanchard out wide left. He, in turn brought the ball down superbly and rifled the ball home from 18 yards.

From then on Charter dominated and could have gone onto score a bagful, but the offside flag was still in good use and the shooting was off colour.

Charter's Man of the Match went to Jamie Jackson and Rob Constable.

Raiders win the battle of Goole

AFC Charter 3, Viking Raiders 6

Raiders progressed to the semi-final of the HE Dean Cup with a victory over local rivals AFC Charter on Tuesday night, writes Gavin Atkinson.

After weathering early pressure, Vikings took the lead on fifteen minutes when Josh Giles raced clear down the left and cracked a low shot past Mark Hall from the edge of the area.

Charter continued to press and levelled when Gill's cross was converted at the back post by Nathan Croley.

Raiders went ahead just before half-time when Hall failed to hold Ash Lattimore's shot and Adam Sharp tucked away the loose ball.

Charter's hopes were hit early in the second half when a red card reduced them to ten men, but they refused to buckle and Ramskill put them level again from close range.

Hero then turned villain as the Charter captain brought down Phil Jackson in the area and Giles scored from the spot.

The youngster then completed a fine hat-trick, going clear and rifling a shot in off the crossbar.

If Vikings thought they had the game won, they were soon brought down to earth as Nathan Croley pulled one back following a defensive error, then Gill had a goal ruled out for a suspicious offside decision.

As Charter piled forward, they left gaps at the back and Ash Lattimore and Mark Turner scored late goals to put the gloss on the win.

Man of the Match for Vikings was Josh Giles. The semi-final will be this Saturday, although the opponents and venue have yet to be confirmed.
