Strong show after midweek loss
Wheldrake U13s 4
Cowick Rangers U13s 2
This postponed fixture from earlier in the season meant an evening kick off last Thursday and two late goals in a controversial game saw a defeat for visitors Cowick Rangers at Wheldrake.
What should have been a good game was marred by bizarre refereeing decisions.
Wheldrake took the lead after 15 minutes with a well-taken goal, and Rangers were further rocked by am injury to Nicky Fletcher following a high tackle, which only ended in a bounce up.
In the second half Rangers drew level when Josh Banks found Fraser West, and the in-form striker made no mistake.
The game became an end to end encounter, and it was the home side who made it 2-1 from a corner which was disputed after the referee ignored an offside flag, but incensed at the injustice, Cowick levelled once more when Rob Smith headed home at the far post.
A point looked to be a good one for Rangers, but Wheldrake struck with two late goals, one from a penalty that no one could argue withm but after Man of the Match Banks looked to be upended in the home penalty area, play swung to the other end and the home side scored a fourth.
Selby Town U13s 1, Cowick Rangers 6
After their defeat 40 hours earlier, Rangers bounced back in style against Selby on Saturday.
A disciplined defensive performance where the home side were caught offside on numerous occasions, provided the platform for Fraser West to score twice in the first half to put them in control.
Rangers started well in the second half too and Josh Banks made it three with a clever shot over the stranded keeper.
Cowick introduced their substitutes and they made an impact allowing West to complete his hat-trick slotting the ball past the advancing keeper.
Aaron Newman almost made it five but saw his goalbound shot come back off the post before Banks scored his second of the game in carbon copy mode to his first.
The home side's efforts were net with a deserved consolation before West scored his fourth to complete an excellent morning for Rangers for whom Jack Taylor won the Man of the Match award.
