The Verm edged even closer to the Premiership title last wednesday evening when beating arch rivals, and near neighbours, Middle House Mavericks 6-4 in a cracking game that could have gone either way.

Only Chris Pollard and John Turner, with two wins apiece, could stand up to the quality play of the Verm, who have seven or eight top-class players to call on. These two Old Goole sides have a stranglehold on local pool at present and with just one point separating them at the top the final three games of the season should be very interesting indeed.

Wilf Whiteheads' Buchanan Badstars continue to impress everyone and this week demolished N.U.R. Clubbers 9-1 with only Ivor Morris failing to win. Pip Schofield's Shipmates stuttered to a welcome 6-4 win over Peacock Pirates, who could do with a bit of luck for a change, while Rich Hunter was the star of the show in the 5-all draw between Viking Wizards and Vic Con Vics. Packet Hasbeens rolled back the years with an unexpected but fully deserved 6-4 win on their travels to Creykes Tigers of Rawcliffe. The trio of Tom Jackson, Dave Gelder and Neil Buck all won two frames apiece on the night.

Shipwrecks of Swinefleet were the biggest winners in Division One with a classy 9-1 success over Packet Panthers, who could not cope with the ringcraft of the experienced Ronnie Crossley or the silky skills of young Joe Holt. Verm Vultures did their best but were beaten 7-3 by champions-elect N.U.R. Neanderthals, who go eight points clear at the top.

Bottom House Hunters were very fortunate to come away with a 6-4 win over Poundapacket, who were super hosts and played much better than their bottom-of-the-table position suggested, whereas it was a bit of an upset to see a 6 - 4 win for Marshland Menaces in their game with the supposedly much more talented Marshland Wanderers.

Royal Predators stay top of Division Two, even though they were held to a 5- all draw by nearest challengers Royal Flush. Best wins were recorded by Steph Walker and Liam Parry.

Charter Backtofronts move into a mid table position thanks to their 7-3 victory over Middle House Lasses who can not be faulted for giving less than 100 per cent effort every game.
