Better display wins the three points
Viking Raiders 4
Northfield Athletic 1
Vikings put an end to their recent bad run of results with a resounding win over mid-table Northfield at Western Road on Saturday.
For the third game running the match was spoilt by strong winds, but the home side were too good for their Hull-based opponents.
Electing to play into the wind in the first half, Vikings were still the better team, and the Northfield keeper kept his side in the game with fine saves, most notably from Tom Bryan, Adam Sharp and skipper Phil Jackson.
The visitors did take the lead after half an hour, when their captain scored with a well-struck free-kick, but other than that, stand-in keeper Anthony Raspin had little to do.
The second half was mostly one-way traffic, and once Raiders found the equaliser, there was only going to be one winner.
That goal came on the hour mark, Atkinson's excellent through ball found Josh Giles, and he produced a perfectly-judged chip over the stranded keeper. Giles was again involved in the second, his cross from the right found Paul Marshall, who might have scored himself, but instead it was Bryan who poked the ball into the corner of the net.
The third came from substitute Kulic, who smashed the ball home from close range after more good work from Marshall. Centre-back Mark Turner set up the fourth, carrying the ball out of defence and sliding through a perfect pass for Sam Nicholls whose first time shot gave the keeper no chance.
A much-improved display all round from the Goole side, who are at home again this week, taking on bottom club Holme Rovers at Western Road.
Players to report at the ground for 1pm.
