Charter Club kept their hopes of retaining the County League title alive with a win at leaders North Ferriby on Saturday.

On arriving at the ground, the visitors found Ferriby obviously up for the game, changed and warming up 45 minutes before kick off.

With a strong wind, the visitors won the toss and decided to go with the elements at their back, and they attacked from the off with the front two of Jackson and Croley chasing everything.

An early goal was needed to settle the nerves and they took the lead after 15 minutes when they won a free kick wide right. Johnson delivered the perfect cross for Fallon to meet with a bullet of a header leaving the keeper grasping thin air.

This brought the home side to life, however they found the back four of Fallon, Hoare, Harrison and Johnson in no mood to concede.

With Ferriby pushing forward, this left room at the back to exploit and the scoreline doubled when a counterattack saw the hosts outnumbered, with Ramskill racing clear down the right. His cross to the far post was met by Constable to side foot home.

Charter went for the kill and should have made it three but hit the post, and despite dominating suffered a setback when a slip by Blanchard wide on the halfway line allowed the home striker to race clear. His square ball into the box was met by a fellow forward to finish with ease.

A setback for the Charter and Ferriby looked for the equaliser, but with Terry Fallon rock solid at the back, they weathered the storm.

The second half saw Wheldrake introduced into the game for Blanchard and from the off he caused problems down the wing, although the wind played havoc with attempted crosses into the area.

Charter still played good football against the wind, and Ferriby had no answer.

Jackson, (above right 13-03-62 SU) who tore the Ferriby back line to shreds throughout, could have scored but was a little unselfish, wanting other players to benefit from his play instead of shooting himself.

The game, however, was won in midfield with Gibbon, Ramskill and Constable working tirelessly throughout the ninety minutes, harassing and tormenting their midfield counterparts.

Ferriby resorted to shooting from distance and the closest they came was a rasping shot near time which looked like heading for the top corner. Hall at full stretch pulled off a brilliant save to turn over the bar.

That was their only shot on target in the entire second half as Charter ran out easy winners despite the slender result.

Man of the match for Charter was shared between Jamie Jackson and Terry Fallon, and this win sees them leapfrog Ferriby by a point, who have a game in hand and have to come to Goole.

This week Charter are back in cup action in their long awaited Goole and Thorne semi final at Thorne Town.

All players to meet for 12.15pm prompt, and if unavailable contact the management.
