Goole Tn. Girls U16s 3

On a windswept day Goole edged out York in a game that could have gone either way.

The home side started the first half with wind advantage and looked the brighter of the two sides, putting much pressure on the Goole goal. Two good saves by Louise Ramsden and some last-ditch defending managed to keep the score blank. Goole threatened on the break without troubling the York keeper

After a scrappy first period Goole started much stronger and looked dangerous taking the lead when a bouncing ball on the edge of the box was hit superbly on the volley by Lucy Peet, giving the keeper no chance. As in previous games against York, they came back strongly and equalised. The game was now end to end, with both teams trying to gain the initiative. It was Goole who went in front for the second time when a lofted through ball from new signing Rebecca Cairney was misjudged by the York keeper.

Back came York, when a challenge from Nisa Wakefield resulted in a penalty award for the home side. City scored from the resultant kick to bring the scores level at 2-2.

With 10 minutes remaining Goole went close after Becky Whitaker hit the cross bar, but shortly after Abbie Wilkinson scored the decisive goal from what seemed an impossible angle.

York exerted tremendous pressure in the dying minutes but the visitors held firm to take all three points.

Both teams tried hard in difficult conditions which made it difficult for both sides to play their flowing football

Cottingham Rang. A 3

Goole's first game after a long lay-off was against the league leaders in windy conditions which made good football a difficult proposition.

The game was evenly matched throughout, with Goole holding their own for most of the first half and only conceding one goal before half time. Goole had their chances, with Thorn constantly a danger being backed up by Hind and Wilson and with Pinkney running the game for Goole in midfield. The away side made it two-nil with a long-range shot that gave the Goole keeper no chance. They then capitalised on a misplaced goal kick to make it three-nil. Goole pressed on playing excellent passing football which led to a penalty to Goole which Thorn failed to convert but made up for it five minutes later latching on to a through ball from Whitehead and finishing well across the keeper. Goole were never out of the game mainly due to outstanding performances by Smith in goal, Hassleman in defence and a great team effort by all, which resulted in well contested game by two talented teams.

Goole Tn. Girls U10s 0,

Brayton Belles 1

Goole's youngest squad showed how they have improved in the return encounter, with Brayton having lost the corresponding game away with a heavy score.

This time round Goole competed far better and are starting to show the results of intensive work on the training field.

A solitary goal midway through the first half that trickled over the line, wind-assisted, was the Belles' only score of the game.

The visitors also missed a penalty in the second period when keeper Farrah Fielder pulled off a good save.

Defensively, Goole played well with Sophie Acaster outstanding at Right Back and Elizabeth Clarke complementing an effective rearguard.

Molly Down and Freya Smart demonstrated the improvement in the side, with Megan Pollard the pick of the forward players.

Goole were hampered with sickness to Bethan Taylor, who had earlier demonstrated her effectiveness in the game.

All in all it was an encouraging performance by the young Goole team, several of whom are playing as under age players.

Rothwell 0, Goole Town Girls U11s 6

League leaders Goole travelled to Rothwell, third in the league, who have lost only two games this season, but the result was never in doubt as Goole forged ahead to cement their place at the top of the League.

Goole were ahead in four minutes from Jamie Allan after a good run on the left and she went on to score a superbly taken hat-trick.

Further goals were added by Hannah Beare, a strong finish by the skillful Emily Lappin and an own goal by a Rothwell defender under pressure. completed the win.

With a commanding lead in the table Goole will entertain the same team next week in the return fixture and will be looking for more of the same.

Goole Town Girls U14s 4, Lepton Highlanders 6

Goole were at home to Lepton Highlanders for this important league clash, the visitors being level on points and two games in hand in terms of table position.

The away fixture earlier in the season saw the visitors beat Goole by 4-1; a subsequent cup encounter saw Goole knock Lepton out of the competition with a 6-2 victory.

The weekend's game offered the opportunity to both sides to see who would come out on top this season. With this in mind, it was the visitors who started strongly, putting the Goole defence under pressure from the outset, resulting in them going a goal in front at the 10 minute mark.

Lepton continued with some good pressure, but Goole responded and started to push forward.

A great through ball from the Goole midfield on the 15-minute mark split the Lepton defence. Jess Tait made the most of the opportunity and finished well to draw the game at 1-1.

The remainder of the half was a close affair, with a lot of the pressure coming from a strong Lepton side.

Goole keeper Laurna Pinkney pulled off some fine saves to ensure that the score line remained level going into the break. Goole came out the stronger at the start of the second half, their forwards attacking the Lepton defence, with a real desire to get in front early in the period.

Some good pressure saw them put away a goalmouth scramble, with Sophie Howard taking the honours.

Lepton levelled, although it had appeared that the Goole keeper had the ball in both hands before being dispossessed, resulting in the goal.

It was again the visitors who applied the pressure, soon taking the lead again, although Goole replied within five minutes, following a great attack which resulted in a free kick, with Kirstie Nicholls following up the rebound to score.

The remainder of the game was an end to end affair, with the visitors finally managing to pull ahead by more than one goal. On the day they were the team with greater strength and overall ability.
