Five on the trot upset favourites

Published on 17th January 2008 in Sport

Creykes Tigers made it five straight wins in the Premier Division of the Goole Pool Winter league last Wednesday when they narrowly defeated title favourites The Verm 6-4.

A good result, which looked anything but likely after they lost three of the first four frames, with Darren Hodgson and Anthony Myers the top players in an extremely exciting encounter between two evenly-matched sides.

A 7-3 home win against the Viking Wizards kept the talented Middle House Mavericks in pole position. The Old Goole side capitalised on the Wizards' inexperience at this level and the fact the visitors were a player short due to work commitments suggested that the Vikings didn't do too badly under the handicap.

Jim Stevens' Vic Con-Vics lost narrowly 6-4 at the Packet HasBeens, but is still doing a sterling job for his young side.

Good play from Colt Woolass and Paul Moffatt helped Shipmates to a fully-deserved 7-3 win over NUR Clubbers, who have yet to win a game following promotion.

Four man Peacock Pirates were over the moon when holding Buchanan Badstars to a tense five-all draw, with Colin Hall and Andy Thompson the two players who stood out from the rest.

Division One

The NUR Neanderthals overcame Shipwrecks 7-3 and move into second place in the table with the Fallon brothers Rob and Lee, together with Nathan Clayton, all playing top games.

Marshland Menaces are third, but they will be slightly disappointed to have only beaten the bottom side PoundaPacket 6-4, Steve Purves, unbeaten 16 match unbeaten run continued with another double.

Vermuyden Vultures regained the winning thread with a 6-4 away win at Packet Panthers and Ricky Harrison was in sparkling form as he helped Marshland Menaces to a welcome 6-4 win over Middle House Massive in the Old Goole 'derby'.

Division Two

Division Two continues to interest with Royal Predators and Royal Flush tied at the top, although the Predators were pushed all the way by the Half Moon in a 6-4 win, and the Flush coasted to a 9-1 win over the Middle House Lasses, whose only success came from Julia Howard.

Old Goole Club beat Charter Back to Fronts 6-4, thanks to good play by Terry Rooke, and Dave Shaw won both his games to help the Bottom House Brigade overcome the Charter Cheddars.
