National Schools cup kicks off

Last year's beaten North Yorkshire Champions Barlby High School kicked off the new National Schools rugby league cup in style with a clinical victory over the Halifax-based opposition.

With last year's top try scorer Josh Skilbeck still out off action with a knee injury, it was left to the remainder of the squad to step up to the challenge.

Selby Warriors players Jacob Scales and Stevie Bell worked well together and from a well drilled set piece from the scrum, Scales powered over the line for a brace.

Josh Horne ran onto a beautifully weighted kick from Scales in the second half to claim a try out wide and Josh Parking barged over from 10 meters out to drive home Barlby's dominance.

Ryan Watkins, Stuart Swan, Dean Frankish, James Knibb, Sam Brooke, Joe Lock, Adam Ward, Steve Hall, Danny Jamieson, Paul Wilkin, Jake Thomas and Tom Dunning all played exceptionally well and contributed towards the victory. Knibb converted three tries.
