Battle end in loss against the unbeaten leaders

York City 7

Goole Town Girls U14s 3

Goole travelled to York for this clash with the current league leaders, a very strong outfit, who were unbeaten last season and on their way to repeating the feat this time around.

Recent Goole form had also been good and the girls were ready to give York a hard game.

The first half was a tough affair as predicted, with Ellie Wilkinson playing an effective role as a sweeper with Lorna Pinkney pulling off some fine saves to keep Goole in contention.

It was York who scored first, breaking through midfield and punishing the Goole defence.

The visitors fought back and started to apply pressure of their own on the York back line, which led to Kirsty Nicholls breaking through to score to bring the game back level at 1-1.

York continued to play good football, passing the ball with ease and driving in fine crosses from both left and right hand side. This good period of play saw York score twice more before the break.

However, as a result of some continued excellent goalkeeping from Lorna Pinkney and another Goole goal from Jess Tait, the visitors were still in with a chance at the break with the score line sitting at 3-2.

The second half saw York continue to attack the visiting goal, and they increased their lead once more.

The hosts continued to show the strength and quality they have throughout the team, punishing an ever more dejected Goole side with a further three goals before the final whistle.

Goole snatched a consolation goal towards the end, this as a result of some good pressure going forward leading to Jess Tait scoring her second of the day.

Hedon Rangers U12s 0

Goole went into this cup game full of confidence, and looking to avenge a 3-1 league defeat by Hedon.

The home side started strongly with the game played in the visitors' half and were rewarded after six minutes when Thorn latched onto terrific pass by Pinkney and beat the keeper with a great strike across goal.

The game was end to end with most of the play going on in a well contested midfield with improving performances by Hasslemann and Raywood, who had a long range effort well saved by a very good Hedon keeper.

The visitors never troubled the Goole keeper in the first half, with Billie Rae Clark stopping everything that came her way.

Goole won a corner late on, which was swung in by Hind for Wilson to finish well, despite some resolute defending to make it 2-0.

The second half was more of the same, but without the goals, with chances falling for Thorn and Wilson who did everything but beat the visiting keeper.

Both teams passed the ball really well, with Hedon probably edging possession looking for a goal, but could not find the breakthrough.

Their best chance came five minutes from time after a great through ball put the Hedon striker one on one with the Goole keeper, but the shot went wide.

Credit is to be given to two well organised sides, who provided an entertaining cup tie right to the final whistle.
