Under 14s defy sleet and snow

Goole Town Girls U14 6
Sleety snow greeted Goole Girls Under 14s as they exacted revenge for an earlier league defeat with a cup win at Lepton.
Goole soon went a goal behind, but all credit to the girls as they levelled, with Kirstie Nicholls' strong running setting up a good finish.
They continued with good pressure, resulting in a number of corners and took a slender 2-1 lead into the break.
The home side had the slope and elements in their favour in the second half, but the back four worked hard and they scored a third goal on one of their good counter attacks.
Lepton didn't give up, and reduced the deficit to 3-2, and as the game progressed, they pushed on to get the equaliser.
However, space resulted behind their midfield, and the defence became exposed. Brenna Hood went close to scoring on a few occasions, after some strong runs down the right wing.
There were one or two good saves from Lorna Pinkney, but eventually three goals from Kirstie Nicholls and Jess Tait settled the tie.
A good display from the girls with recent signing Laura Theaker returning for a second spell in good form.
North Ferriby 0, Goole Town Girls 0
Goole made the journey to Ferriby and left with an unusual goalless draw, which was in no way a reflection on how both teams played as chances were created at both ends of the pitch.
Throughout the first half Goole passed the ball with confidence, with chances falling to Thorn and Wilson, backed up by Pinkney, who had two long-range shots saved by the home keeper.
Goole had their own goalkeeper to thank for getting to half time level when she was twice faced with a one-on-one situation against the Ferriby striker, but came out on top.
It was more of the same in the second half as both teams pressed for the winner, with the best chance falling to Wilson, who put her shot just wide after great work from Hind and Thorn.
Goole Town Girls U11s 0, Lepton Highlanders 5
On a wet and cold Sunday Goole, holding a 100 per cent record in the West Riding League Division Two, were drawn at home to Lepton, a strong and physical Division One outfit in the West Riding Cup.
It was soon evident from the first minute when the visitors went ahead that the Goole side, carrying several under-age players, would not be able to match the physical capabilities of Lepton.
The Highlanders, more accustomed to cold and wet and used to plying their trade on the moors close to the Holme Moss transmitter, went further ahead and try as they might Goole could carve out few opportunities against a resolute defence.
Solo runs by some of the Goole players that pay dividends in the lower League had little impact and the need for a more passing game was evident.
Driffield Juniors 3, Goole Town Girls U10s 1
Goole took the lead with their first goal of a difficult season when Katie Dennis ran 40 yards and toe-poked the ball home.
The visitors could have gone further ahead, with a penalty awarded for hands but the spot kick was saved to leave Goole with a slender half-time advantage.
In the second half Driffield stepped up a gear but Goole player of the match keeper Abbey Dennis was outstanding with some one-to-one interceptions and good handling of the ball.
Bethan Taylor worked hard, defending and supporting in equal measure, but Goole's old failing of not clearing their lines coupled with poor goal kicks was their eventual down fall.
It was however a keenly fought game with the result in doubt until Goole pushed players forward in the last few minutes only to see Juniors break for the third goal of the game.
