Division One

NUR 3, Rawcliffe Utd. 0

The home side set off full of confidence with nice touch football, which caused Rawcliffe early problems.

Stout defending and poor finishing stopped the goals from being scored, but the message from the bench - keep playing football and goals will follow - was to come true when a cross by Swan was met by Bussey. His shot was parried but midfielder Joe Burnitt slammed home his first goal of the campaign.

After this the floodgates could have opened, but fine keeping kept the score at 1-0 until just before the break, when a deep cross was met bravely by Bussey, who whilst scoring crashed into the post, causing initial concern, but he was able to continue.

The second half was one-way traffic. The home side's midfield had all the time in the world, with the keeper making several outstanding saves.

He almost single-handedly saved the score from a real mauling, but midway through the half NUR made it three, which turned out to be the final score.

Division Two

AFC Goods Office 4,

Corner Pin 0

The Goole side continued their fine form with a comfortable victory over Moorends side Corner Pin on Sunday.

A quiet opening eventually saw the deadlock broken by the home side from the penalty spot. Andy Severn was brought down for Sajid Whitaker to convert from 12 yards.

Goods Office went on to dominate the rest of the first 45 minutes and were further rewarded when Dave McMahon chased down a long ball and, with the keeper hesitating, applied the final touch too.

Corner Pin tried to rally at the start of the second half, but were met by a resolute and solid back four, with keeper Dom McMahon seldom troubled, although he did make two good stops, including one that flew off the crossbar to safety.

However, on the hour any hopes of a revival from the Moorends side ended with Chris Gilmartin's powerful shot half saved by the keeper, but unable to be stopped from crossing the line.

With victory assured, Goods Office sprayed the ball around well, and they made it four when Andy Whitaker fed Dave McMahon and he fired past the keeper.

Man of the Match for the Goods Office was Chris Gilmartin and special thanks to Andy Newman for providing the nets.

Kings Arms 6, Cowick Cavaliers 0

Three goals in each half saw Kings Arms ease to a comfortable 6-0 victory against Cowick.

The home team always looked to get the ball down and play passing football and were rewarded with some excellent goals. Steve Whur scored four times, with some well-taken finishes. Mike Whur and Graeme Buffrey also scored as the Kings Arms attack created lots of chances.

The away team were never really in the game but battled until the final whistle. Kings Arms man of the match was in-form striker Steve Whur.

Real Utd 1, Buffalo FC 2

Real's young team faced their stiffest challenge so far against league leaders Buffalo, but quickly showed that they fear no one, taking the game to the visitors from the off.

Both defences were on top generally and chances were limited throughout, although good football entertained the crowd on the touchline.

Real took the lead in the second half, when good work by Nicky Heywood saw the ball cross the line, with Ashley Andrew on the scene to make sure - one for the dubious goals panel to sort out!

Buffalo came back quickly and levelled within minutes when the pace of the visiting striker beat both defender and keeper to the ball, 1-1.

Experience told in the end as the visitors grabbed the winner from a corner with minutes remaining to break Real's hearts.

A good match expertly handled by referee Barry Clements.

Real United's Man of the Match went to Tom Gormley. The club would like to thank The Steam Packet for the great food and hospitality afterwards.

This Sunday, Real face Goods Office in Divisional Cup at Kent Road, and the Buffalo entertain Rawcliffe Bridge Club in the league. (See right).
