Badstars prove good players

The opening fixtures in the Goole Pool League Winter Season took place last Wednesday and shocks lay in store for some of the pre-season favourites.
Wilf Whitehead's Buchanan Badstars continued their improvement with an outstanding 6-4 home win over reigning champions Creykes Tigers in a smashing Premiership contest.
Ivor Morris and Andy Thompson were the men who did the most damage to the star-studded Rawcliffe side with two wins apiece.
John Greaves was in brilliant form for Creykes, but they need to show more than this to retain their title.
Pride of Old Goole, The Verm, started well with a hard-fought win over Packet Hasbeens, who were a bit ring rusty after a couple of seasons off the table competitively.
Andy Pendlebury was the star man for The Verm, while it was fantastic to see Sean Broadhead back at the table for Packet. Both these sides should play a big part in the title outcome.
Middle House Mavericks flew out of the traps with a resounding 9-1 win over newly-promoted Peacock Pirates, who could field only four players due to work commitments. As always, Johnny Kidd and John Turner excelled for Middle, who have made another great signing in Chris Pollard. Middle could well surprise a few this season, but Peacock cannot under-perform like this again, otherwise only heartache lies ahead.
Shipmates of Swinefleet threw their cap in the ring with a comprehensive 8-2 drubbing of Vic Con-Vics, who performed so well last season.
Lee Woad, Des Lancaster, Colt Woolass and Chris Clark all won well for the Ship, who are fancied by many good judges to be the team to beat this season.
Viking Wizards made a winning debut in the premiership by beating former Division One side NUR Clubbers 6-4.
Wayne Jackson, Steve Bunclark and Rich Hunter all looked at home in this class, but only time will tell if their handicap of ten start will be enough to see them involved in the finish. There are some excellent sides in this division and Vikings will have to step up a gear to stay in contention.
In Division One, two great clearances by Micky Brooks got Bottom House Hunters out of a hole and forced a five-all draw with Middle House Massive in the Old Goole 'derby'.
Kev Fagg was also on top form for the Hunters, but Martyn Hill and Lee Carroll looked special for Massive, who may challenge for the title this season.
Marshland Wanderers found it tough going when beaten 6-4 at home to NUR Neanderthals.
There were many good frames in this game but Lee Fallon, Neil Kirby and Nigel Beadle sttod out in particular.
Richard Holgate won twice for Poundapacket but it was still not enough to stop Verm Vultures winning 6-4. Nathan Croley, Adam Cawkill and Joe Nicholls were all superb for the triumphant Old Goole side.
Having found it hard in Division One last season, Old Goole Club celebrated their demotion in style with a 8-2 success over Middle House Lasses.
Cary Dean played a captain's role with two wins and was backed up by Dale Lawton and Darren Brooks. Maxine Johnson and Sam Proctor were the only winners for the Middle.
A five-all draw seemed a fair result between Half Moon of Reedness and Bottom House Bridgade.
Cameron Morris is a young man to watch out for in the future while team mate Rob Watson can't stop winning, good signs.
