Home hopes sent West in great winHome hopes sent West in great win
Elvington Rangers Under 13s 1, Cowick Rangers Under 13s 5
Rangers travelled to Elvington for this Selby District league game, and had to work hard against stubborn hosts, who were enjoying a good winning run of late.
Cowick took the lead in the fifth minute when Fraser West raced clear to slot the ball home.
There was a combative battle in the midfield where Rob Smith, Josh Banks, Charlie Britton and Nicky Fletcher stood up well in a bruising encounter.
Although Elvington had their chances, West increased the Cowick lead with a second and almost completed a first half hat-trick, but for a fine save by the keeper.
A fine one-handed save from Josh Breedon kept the Rangers' two-goal cushion to the break.
After the break Elvington came out strongly but Rangers increased their lead with West's hat-trick as he used his pace to break away and find the back of the net.
Smith intercepted a pass and provided a fine ball for Fletcher to slot the ball past the home keeper for number four, and the goal of the match came as Hinch fed Fletcher and his break on the left, and subsequent squared ball allowed West to score his fourth.
Elvington scored a consolation goal for their efforts in this end to end encounter.
Cowick's next game is at Croda on Saturday with Goole Town Tigers the visitors.
Doncaster Rovers Belles 5, Goole Town Girls U16s 1
Goole was always going to find it hard against a side that finished second in the Four Counties league last season, but competed really well in a very competitive game.
The Belles started strongly but found it hard to break down a solid looking Goole defence.
It was Goole that almost took the lead when an Elley McGlynn corner was touched on by Bulmer, only to see it rebound back off the post, but late in the half Doncaster took the lead with a neat lob over the keeper.
Goole were caught cold early in the second half, conceding a sloppy goal from a corner, and a brilliant flowing move from the Belles that started deep in their own half was finished with a superb left foot shot.
They responded when Alex Cawkwell hit a great left-foot volley into the corner of the net. This gave Goole new confidence as Abbie Wilkinson hit the crossbar and Cawkwell missed a good chance.
Two late Belles goals made the scoreline a lot worse than it really was, and the Goole girls are already looking forward to the return game and will be out to show they can match the best.
Thorngumbald Tigers Under 11s 0, Howden Town Under 11s 5
Howden travelled to Thorngumbald and gave a convincing performance after last week's loss at South Cave.
The first goal came from John Boardman after 10 minutes, firing home from inside the penalty area.
Keane Ullathorne and Corey Harrison went close, before Howden scored just on half-time, Sam Challenger heading down for Boardman to get his second with a half volley into the roof of the net.
In the second half the home side had a number of good chances, but as the game entered the final quarter, Howden started to pass the ball around and open up the Thorngumbald defence.
Keane Ullathorne scored two quck goals, one from the spot after being fouled, and after a flowing move saw Logan pass wide for Boardman to float a cross into the area, and result in a glancing header into the far corner. He then netted his hat-trick to complete thr rout and earn the Man of the Match award.
