Foster ton sees Goole to final

Caradon Ideal 153

CLUB STALWART, and in form, Steve Foster scored an unbeaten century to help Goole seconds to the final of the Cropwise Cup at Westfield on Saturday.

Foster completed his century off the final ball of the 40 overs as his side compiled a total that was always too many for Caradon Ideal in this semi final tie.

Pressed into service primarily to fill a wicket keeping role, and also to provide more experience in the absence of regulars Barry Clements and Neil Webster, the veteran, who is batting better than ever this season, was on the pitch for the whole game, 24 hours after doing the same admittedly in a rain affected first team game (report back page).

He shared in excellent partnerships with John McGrory, Andy Rodgers and Jamie Shipp, and the five an over run rate spelt trouble for the visitors after tea.

The ton came off only 111 balls and was well received by his team mates, and those enjoying yet another perfect Sunday afternoon for cricket.

In reply, Caradon were on the back foot immediately and lost two wickets, with the score on one, to Mark Hinchclffe, captain for the day, and Mark West, whose eventual 4-8 off 6.2 overs was a superb piece of bowling.

A stand of 76 for the third wicket between Dennison and Fox in 16 overs threatened, but both went to Hinchcliffe and Steve Cawthorne, and although several other batsmen reached double figures, Goole were able to assume control from a long way out.

All the bowlers impressed with Jamie Shipp knocking over two middle order batsmen in similar fashion, clean bowled, and it was left to West to apply the coup de grace with the final two victims.

Earlier there was a family combination with Sami caught by brother David.

A superb all-round performance sees them into the final next month, opponents and venue to be confirmed.

League game washed out at tea time

A thunderstorm washed out Goole seconds? league game in East Yorkshire Alliance Division Two at Hull Ionians on Saturday.

However, not before Goole had restricted the home side to 149 all out in the 45th over with Louie Moore, just 15, going on to take 4-18, and four of the top six batsmen too.

Mark Hinchcliffe bowed a tight spell as usual with 2-24 in 12 overs, and Steve Wilson was economical with 1-16 in nine overs. The other wicket takers were James Kerr with 1-36 and Will Sparks 1-40.

Goole appeared to have a good chance of gaining revenge for defeat at Westfield last month, but once the storm hit, any hopes of a resumption were impossible.
