Action at last for Newport teams

Beeford 101
Newport 1st XI 203-6
Newport visited Beeford and with their best performance of the season so far returned with a convincing win by 102 runs.
Batting first however, they they made a poor start losing Mark Ogram for one and Randal Yates for two, but the innings was revived from 10-2 by Miles Kirk and Carl Wilson who added 81 for the third wicket before Kirk was bowled by Rodmel for 35.
Wilson was joined by Graeme Buffrey in another solid stand of 76 for the fourth wicket in which Wilson was the main scorer. Buffrey was caught off Johnson for 15, but Wilson moved on to a superb century including nine fours and two sixes before he was run out for 108.
Newport closed on a challenging 203 -6 with Johnson taking 3-53 for Beeford.
Beeford are a strong batting side but although all of their batsmen got a start, none of them went on to a big score.
Bateman was run out by a good return from Josh Chapman for 14.
Miles Kirk, in a good opening spell, bowled Johnson for 13 and Randal Yates trapped Briggs leg before for Beeford's top score of 22. It was left to Richie Harrison to wrap up the victory with three quick wickets for 18.
Josh Chapman took a superb catch at mid on when Warden drove Mark Phillips. Gav Branton took late wicket as Beeford were all out for 101 in the 30th over to give Newport a maximum point victory to move closer to the top two Middleton and Rudston, who both visit Newport this month.
Brandesburton 85
Newport 2nd XI 79
The seconds visited Brandesburton, who were staging their first home game since their ground was flooded at the beginning of the month.
The pitch was still damp, sluggish and not easy to bat on, and the visitors wisely put the home side in, and they were soon struggling losing three quick wickets.
John Exley trapped A.Hawley lbw and Paul Tough bowled Jones and Shipley in successive balls.
B. Hawley hit two sixes off Exley before he was bowled trying another, and when Exley bowled Granger and Newburn for nought, Brandsburton were six down for 36.
Opener Wilson's patient knock ended when he was bowled by Tough for 23 and at 56-9 after 18 overs, Newport sensed a quick finish but an annoying and ultimately crucial last wicket stand of 29 in 17 overs between Lakin (21) and Hyland (6) frustrated them until Exley had Lakin caught by Tony Rimmer.
Brandesburton were all out for 85. Exley took 6-32 in 18 overs and Tough 4 -49.
Newport started poorlyl losing Steve Clarke and Tony Rimmer cheaply, but Paul Tough and Doug Harwood took the score to 36 before Harwood was bowled by Lakin for 11, which prompted a fatal collapse.
They lost four wickets for eight runs with three more wickets to Lakin.
Young Josh Rimmer helped Tough add runs until he was caught with Newport now 60-9.
Phil Norton joined Tough and with a mixture of edges, quick singles and firm hits from the latter, Newport got to within six runs of victory when Newman trapped Norton leg before for nine leaving Paul Tough not out on 40.
In the end it was Brandesburton's last wicket stand which was the difference between the sides in a low-scoring but absorbing contest.
Newport will be looking to play cricket on their own ground this weekend. The awful weather, coupled with vandalism to the square has meant no cricket for over a month.
The firsts do have important games to play on their own ground and will be hoping the weather settles down in the last month.
