Goole and Thorne Cup Semi Final

Victoria Rangers 4, Green Dragon 3

Victoria Rangers overcame tiredness, four games in seven days for that side alone, to reach their third cup final this season with a 4-3 victory over Division Two Green Dragon in Sunday's Goole and Thorne Cup semi final.

Rangers started in determined fashion and were rewarded with a goal after 20 minutes when Neil Harrison chipped the keeper after good work by Gary Jones.

However Green Dragon replied quickly and scored twice to take the lead following defensive mistakes.

Andy Gill, who had recovered from a gashed leg, levelled the scores before the break as he rounded two defenders to fire home.

Stuart Slack headed home a Gill corner to restore the lead for the 'Gers after the break, but as it seemed they were taking control of the tie, they allowed Green Dragon to equalise at 3-3.

Not wanting extra time, Vic poured forward again and ignoring their aching limbs created good chances before Jon Newton headed home what was to be the winner from a Gill cross.

A fine cuptie with the Thorne side playing their part. The Mansfield Brewery Man of the Match went to Andy Gill.

This Sunday sees the final against Thorne Demi in a repeat of the Frank Cawthorn final two weeks , ago, this time at the home of Hatfield Main, kick off 11am.

Division One

Victoria Rangers 3, NUR 0

(played Thursday)

After their defeat against Old Goole Veterans on the Tuesday night, Rangers returned to winning ways on Thursday with a 3-0 win over NUR.

Steve Williams gave them the lead with a fine volley from Shane Woodall's cross, and provider turned scorer for the second as Woodall scored direct from a free kick.

The game was effectively over by half time as Terry Fallon drilled home a low shot, and it could have been worse for the visitors had Williams not had two goals ruled out in a one-sided first half.

The second half saw Rangers continue to dominate, but unable to add to their tally.

The Mansfield Brewery Man of the Match was shared between Simon Gardiner and Lee Harrison.

Marshland Wanderers 10, George Renegades 4

With nothing but pride to play for, Marshland Wanderers turned in the kind of performance that they should have done earlier in the season.

Both teams were missing key players, but the visitors made a lightning start in the first quarter of an hour and Sutton gave them the lead.

Wanderers equalised immediately through Martin Hill, and a hat-trick from the up and coming Nathan Croley gave Wanderers a 4-1 half time lead.

The Renegades made it 4-2 when Rockett scored early in the second half, but Hill made it five and three more goals for Croley put Wanderers out of sight as the youngster completed a double hat-trick.

Sutton replied for a gallant Renegades, but Marshland reached double figures with late goals from Merv Martin and Jamie Bell.

Old Goole Veterans 2, Hatfield Woodhouse 2

The Vets entered their final home game of the season on the back of two successive wins and 16 goals in the process against Comus Inn and Victoria Rangers.

However they found life difficult against Hatfield Woodhouse at South Park, and only secured a point in the final ten minutes courtesy of Dale Noon's strike.

There was little to offer in a scrappy first half, where an injury to Sam Nicholls in a 50-50 challenge saw him needing hospital treatment at Scunthorpe on an ankle injury, and all connected with the club wish him a speedy recovery.

When the game restarted, Hatfield went in front when a miscued clearance from Andy Lazenby left stand-in keeper Luke Burns with little chance and that was the only score of the first half.

After the break it was slightly better fare from the home side without creating anything clear cut, however they managed to claw themselves level at 1-1 when Lazenby made amends for his earlier slip by forcing home the rebound after Ady Heathcock's long range effort came back off the bar.

Their joy was short-lived when Luke Burns failed to collect on the edge of his area and the Woodhouse striker nipped in to score, but once more they found the equaliser with Noon striking after good work by Neil Huntington.

The 'Vets' would like to thank Shane Murphy of Murphy Engineering for their match sponsorship and Paul Marshall won the Man of the Match award.

Division Two

Arcadia 0, Howden Minster 3

(played Thursday)

Howden Minster made the trip to Goole side Arcadia f on Thursday night and left with all three points.

An even first half saw both teams playing good football on a bouncy pitch, and although Arcadia had the upper hand they couldn't find a way past a solid Minster defence.

A debatable penalty gave Arcadia the chance to go into the break in front but an excellent save by Minster 'keeper Carl Coates kept the scores level at 0-0.

Howden Minster upped their game after the break and took the lead when Andy Branton broke free from the home defence and shot past the Arcadia 'keeper.Mike Gray scored for Minster soon after, volleying home from a corner, and the points were wrapped up when Branton tapped home his second after good work by Mike Whur.

It was an excellent performance by the Howden team, who will be looking to finish their first season strongly.

Arcadia 4, Cowick Cavaliers 1

Arcadia recovered from their 3-0 defeat to Howden Minster with a win over Cowick Cavaliers on Sunday morning.

Cowick made a bright start, but were undone by a 25-yard curling free kick from Vidal Newman to put the home side ahead.

Veteran keeper Huby then denied Arcadia's Adam Cawkill and Chris Gilmartin from putting them in front.

Against the run or play, Cowick equalised with a fine shot into the corner of goal, but just before the break the home side were back in front when Cawkill produced an unstoppable shot.

The second half saw the visiting keeper excel himself even more with a string of fantastic saves, but he was powerless to deny Arcadia from extending their lead with Danny Neil beating three defenders before unleashing a fierce cross shot.Dave McMahon made it four when latching on to Gilmartin's through pass.
