Division One

Victoria Rangers 10, Marshland Wanderers 1

Rangers were back to winning ways following their three-week lay-off due to bad weather.

They were in top form from the word go and were home and dry by half time, thoroughly meriting their win against the lowly Wanderers outfit.

Steve Williams opened the scoring for Rangers with a 20-yard shot, and five minutes later Ryan Mitchell pounced to score his first of four goals on the morning.

It was all Rangers and after a quarter of an hour Simon Gardiner was on hand in the six yard box for number three.

Further goals from Williams and Mitchell's two complete his hat-trick made it six at half time.

The second period continued in much the same vein with the home side making light work of the visitors, who although out of the match did continue to work hard.

Further goals came from Jason Gibbon, two for Jon Newton and a fourth for Mitchell although there was a consolation goal for Marshland.

The Mansfield Brewery Man of the Match award went to Jon Newton.

The two teams play each other once more this Sunday at South Park. kick off 10.30am.

NUR 1, Old Goole Veterans 3

In a game between two teams looking for slip ups by the perfect Thorne Demi at present, Old Goole Veterans held all the aces from as early as the 10th minute with two Dale Noon goals giving them the lead.

NUR, in form themselves, lost Braithwaite to a nasty-looking knee injury and were forced to reshuffle the pack and against an experienced Veterans side, one of two of the younger home players were caught out.

The Vets' first came from a mix-up between keeper Burnitt and a defender. Gary Noon was able to supply his brother with the opener and Sammy Woad's long clearance provided route one for Noon to slot home the second.

Dale went on to complete a first-half hat-trick after 33 minutes from a Sam Nicholls knock down, and although NUR had claims for a penalty turned down, they faced a mountain to climb after the break.

And although they worked hard after the break, with Moore and Eastwood to the fore, the Vets remained in control of the game and the home side's consolation came in the closing ten minutes when Beattie came off the bench to score to the delight of the NUR faithful.

From the Vets' perspective, they always felt happy with the morning' work and their Man of the Match went to Gary Noon, and the club would like to thank Barbara and Roly Binnington for their sponsorship of the match ball.

Division Two

Drax Athletic 1, Canal Tavern 9

Thorne's unbeaten Sunday League side, Canal Tavern carried on where they finished last week with a convincing win over an injury ravaged Drax.

The match was hastily rearranged for Drax after the Toll Bar surface was rendered unfit

Drax were on the back foot in the opening 25 minutes, but kept a clean sheet and somehow managed to take the lead when an attempted clearance by Kevin Hames cannoned into the striker and bobbled over the line.

However, it proved to be a false dawn for Drax, who in looking to be more adventurous conceded an equaliser to Darren Brown after good work by Lee Pearson.

The Tavern were ahead five minutes later, Scott Pearson setting up brother Lee to score.

The second half turned into a goal feast for Tavern, with club captain Craig Hampson heading home Adam Freeborn's corner and Adam Atkinson scoring with a volley seconds after coming on as a replacement.

An own goal made it 5-1 and three goals in five minutes demoralised Drax. Daz Brown lobbed the keeper, Atkinson scored his second and Lee Pearson beat the offside trap to feed Adam Freeborn for a simple tap-in.

Despite being reduced to 10 men through Freeborn's injury, Lee Pearson made it 9-1 with a right-foot curler.

Thanks to Tavern sponsors Alex at Key Cars and Howard at Don Despatch. This week Cowick Cavaliers lie in wait, with transport leaving at 9.30am.

Green Dragon 1, Arcadia 0

Green Dragon widened the gap between themselves and Goole side Arcadia with a hard-fought home victory.

It wasn't one of the Dragon's best performances, but they secured the points with a first-half strike from leading goal-scorer Andrew Bembridge.

Chris Davies twice hit the post from first-half free kicks as the Dragon were disrupted by the injury to Matthew Daniels, who had to replaced after 20 minutes.

Just before the break the goal came as Bembridge got on the end of long clearance by Michael Ryan, and fired home an unstoppable shot from the edge of the area. Both sides continued to have chances in the second half, and when the Dragon were reduced to 10 men with 20 minutes remaining, when Chris Davies was very harshly sent off for two bookable offences, it looked as though Arcadia might come back in to the game.

However, the Dragon defended well and goalkeeper Tommy Dudley made two excellent saves to deny the Goole side and ensure the Dragon continued there winning streak.

This week the Dragon face Swinefleet Social, the only side to beat them in the league this season. Players meet at 9.30am for the latest home encounter.
