A winning start to 2007 for Cowick Rangers U12s with an excellent win at Selby Town.

However, it was not until the second half that Rangers confirmed their superiority with two further goals to add to a first half strike by Josh Banks, his 10th goal of the campaign.

The young Robins keeper was by far the busier of the two with saves from Aaron Newman, Fraser West and Nicky Fletcher.

In the second half, Cowick continued to apply the pressure always aware of possible counters from the home side, but it was the persistence of Nicky Fletcher which settled the game as he eventually shot past the advancing keeper to make it 2-0.

Fraser West made it three when he weaved his way through the defence to slot home.

Liam Stainthorpe almost made it four, but his shot missed the the post by inches.

Cowick's Man of the Match went to the tireless Rob Smith.

Their next league fixture is on Saturday against Monk Fryston at Cowick Hall, Croda with a 10.30am kick off.

Viking Raiders U13s 2, Hessle Rang. U13s 2

Viking's first game back after the Christmas break, was a rip-roaring encounter against league opponents Hessle Rangers.

With both teams looking for victory to keep in promotion contention, it was the visitors who took the lead before Raiders' Joe Masterman equalised with a sweet finish.

With the scores level at the break, it was all to play for in the second half and numerous chances were created at both ends.

Raiders eventually went in front as tireless running from striker Sam Copping was rewarded with the goal. Hessle equalised late on and a draw was a fair result.

A well deserved Man of the Match award to Vikings Luke Jacobs.
