A mobile dentist should be operating in Snaith once a week on a provisional basis assuming an agreement can be reached on a suitable site for the unit.

After the meeting of Snaith and Cowick Town Council on November 13, it was decided to recommend The Marshes car park to local MP Ian Cawsey.

Since then, doctors and staff at The Marshes have agreed to host the mobile unit and in an e-mail to local councillor Kester Dean, John Keating, the clinical director of salaried dental services, confirmed that after a meeting with doctors and other staff at The Marshes, the mobile dentist will be available for local residents to use one day per week until March, 2007, dependent on further commissioning.

There is also the possibility of a permanent NHS dentist returning to Snaith after East Riding of Yorkshire Council confirmed that the Primary Care Trust (PCT) could commission a general dentist practitioner for the town.

This would be the first time in almost nine months that free dental treatment would be available in Snaith on the NHS after the town's other dentist turned private, leading to concerns that the elderly and those in a lower income bracket would be unable to afford treatment.

Although plans are very advanced, the scheme still needs the final go ahead from the PCT, who will be carrying out a site inspection in the near future.
