Christmas in hospital for bus victim

Published on 30th November 2006 in News

Fred McLachlan (13), the student hit by a bus on his way to Howden Secondary School, is doing well although will spend Christmas in hospital.

His older brother, Joe, said that Fred is likely to spend 12 weeks in hospital, after suffering injuries to his back, pelvis, chest and head in the accident on November 9.

A spokesperson for Hull Royal Infirmary reported on Wednesday that Fred was "comfortable."

Meanwhile, Fred's family and friends have been continuing the campaign to make the school route safer.

Petitions asking for a school crossing have been left in shops and the medical centre in Howden and Joe is drafting a letter to accompany it to the East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC).

The campaign has the full backing of Howden Town Council.

Last week, the ERYC said they planning work around the area and meetings with the headteacher.

A school travel plan, including surveys of vehicles, pedestrians and an overview of routes to school will have be carried out before the work begins.
