Bathroom 'pods' - loos

Published on 30th November 2006 in News

Gilberdyke based Gatewaypods have announced that they have won a £500,000 order for their factory-produced bathroom pods for the Holiday Inn Express being built at the new St Stephen's development in Hull.

The bathroom pods are a fully-fitted bathroom housed in a steel frame. All the wall and tile flooring, plumbing, electrics, sanitary ware, shower and baths etc. are fitted into the pods before they leave the Gilberdyke factory.

The pods are subjected to a vigorous testing regime and covered in a waterproof membrane before being delivered to site, where they are installed by crane and connected to water and electrical supplies for instantaneous use.

Commenting on the win, head of business development Paul Bonaccorsi said: "We are delighted to be involved in the new Holiday Inn development, but even more so as it is so close to home."

"Having a project locally means that when we have to put any of our visitors up for an overnight stay, we can place them into a hotel that has our superb pod product inside it."

The pods are being manufactured now and the first delivery of the pods to site will be in late December.

Mr Bonaccorsi added: "We are finding that more and more construction companies and end users such as hotel chains or apartment builders are using our product and in the last three months we have picked up nearly £4 million worth of business.

"Many of the suppliers we use such as MKM, City Plumbing and Excel Laminating are all locally based, so we are not the only ones to benefit from this; other local companies benefit too."

The hotel is due to open in the summer of 2007.
