Tireless fund-raiser on a mission to help others
Published on 30th November 2006 in News
When Amanda McVeagh was diagnosed with cancer a year ago, she decided that she would do what she could to help others by raising as much money as possible.
Her most recent efforts have seen a new water-cooler installed at Goole Hospital, thanks in part to neighbours Dave and Jean Brooks, who asked for donations instead of presents for their golden wedding anniversary and gave around £300 to the Amanda McVeagh Cancer Appeal, which then funded the water-cooler.
Amanda has also raised cash for Dove House Hospice, and another successful venture saw a sponsored pony trek around Pollington raise more than £3,500 for improvements to Ward 19 at Scunthorpe Hospital.
Her latest bout of money-making comes in the form of a swimathon which is being arranged for pupils in years five and six at Boothferry Primary School. It will take place at Goole Leisure Centre at the end of March or the beginning of April, and will also feature a raffle and 'name the dog' competition for a huge cuddly toy.
